What is the EXAM system?

EXAM system enables learning assessment in a versatile and flexible way. Teachers can implement various kinds of examinations and demonstrations of learning. Students can take exams according to their own schedule by using the camera-monitored EXAM studios on campus.
Note! Aalto University is not involved in exam visit feature; exams can only be taken by Aalto University students.
How does the EXAM system work?
When a teacher decides to use the EXAM system for a course, they can use it to create, schedule and publish examinations or similar competence demonstrations. When an examination is published in EXAM, students can book the examination time within a time period specified by the teacher. The student receives an email confirmation of their booking, showing the time and place of the exam as well as the specific computer to be used. The student takes the exam in a camera-monitored EXAM studio at the booked time. When the student has finished the examination, the teacher is automatically notified. When the teacher has assessed and locked the exam, the student is automatically notified of their results.

EXAM studios at Aalto University campus
EXAM studios are located in the Undergraduate Centre (Otakaari 1).
Since the EXAM studios are open only within the opening hours of the building, students should always check the Undergraduate Centre's opening hours before booking an examination time. Exceptions to the opening hours should also be checked. Students are responsible for ensuring that the building is open during the examination time they book. There are sometimes delays in the EXAM system regarding exceptions to opening hours.
During the holiday season, from 15.12.2025 to 2.1.2026, the Undergraduate Centre (OK1) has shortened opening hours, which affect the opening hours of the EXAM rooms. However, we can keep the EXAM rooms normally open during week 51 (15-19.12.2025) with special arrangements. Therefore, access to the EXAM rooms after 15:30 is only through the Undergraduate Centre (OK1) main door (F-door).
PLEASE NOTE! The rooms Tenttihuone XS OK1M129 and Tenttihuone XS OK1M131 is only allowed for students with the certificate for individual study arrangements. In this case, the name of the exam has a XS prefix (XS NAME OF THE EXAM). Reservations without a XS prefix are removed by the system administration.
