Department of Economics

The Department of Economics is committed to outstanding research and research-based education at all levels. We are particularly strong in microeconomic theory and empirical microeconomics with a focus on labor and personnel economics, energy and environmental economics, and competition and innovation on economics.

We offer Bachelor's, Master's and PhD degrees in Economics. The study programmes are structured to ensure internationally recognized qualifications and a lifelong human capital.

We are part of Helsinki Graduate School of Economics. Helsinki GSE is a unit for economic research and graduate education that was established in 2018 together with Hanken School of Economics and the University of Helsinki.

Two recent publications from the School of Business that focused on social impact were included in the FT top 100 list. The list used social media attention as one of its indicators.

The grants are allocated to 32 Aalto University applicants and working groups. The largest individual grant is awarded to Professor Matti Liski for his working group that studies the market impacts of the energy transition

Webinar: Coronavirus COVID-19 and Force Majeure (in Finnish and in English)

This webinar provides up-to-date information on the effects of the coronavirus epidemic as regards to contractual relationships, and especially long supply chains. Topics to be discussed include the conditions under which a Force Majeure situation could be at hand, what should be taken into account if it is to be invoked, and how the epidemic should be addressed in new agreements now and in the future.
