Material bank for official university materials
About our photography
With our photography, we want to celebrate the diversity of people, activities and creativity that thrive on our campus. We want to depict collaboration and teamwork.
Our aim is to create high-quality images that feel authentic and invoke curiosity. We want to create stunning compositions that convey energy and beauty. We want to avoid images that feel overly posed or heavily retouched.
Where can I use Aalto photos?
The photos can only be used in direct connection with Aalto University. When using our photos, kindly note the credit like so: Aalto University/photographer's name. Thank you.

How to free crop an image
Once you've selected a photo to download:
- click on the downward arrow in the bottom-right corner of the photo, then
- select Free crop, and
- finalise the cropping to your requirements, and
- download.
File conversion options before downloading
Once you've selected a photo to download for the use at aalto.fi, select the option "Web Quality for aalto.fi". See image 1 in the gallery.
If you're downloading more than one photo, you can set the file storage format for your selection in one go. Here's how. See images 2–3 in the gallery:
- right click on one of the selected photos, or click on the number of the amount of selected photos (in the blue title bar)
- click in the new window on "Conversion" (on the white background)
- check only the option "Web Quality for aalto.fi", which is applicable for aalto.fi, save by clicking on the tick
- click on the downward arrow in the blue bar, and save the created file.
This is a little bit of a cumbersome procedure. However, we at COS, are looking into possibilities of how this could be made easier for the material/image bank user.
Material bank features
You can free crop a selected image in the material bank before you download it. There is a gallery view option, too, when scrolling images per folder.
