Our teaching

We are educating chemical engineers for the sustainable future.
We are catalysts of change, an attractive educator, and a forerunner in chemical engineering education. We educate experts who will develop breakthrough technologies in the changing world of energy transition, climate change, and limited material resources.

Decoding the chemistry of space with machine learning

Astronomers can detect complex chemical fingerprints in stardust – but many of them remain unidentified. The SpaceML project combines machine learning and computational chemistry to simulate how molecules form and evolve in space, helping researchers decode these signals.

Smart textiles are reshaping our understanding of materials – and interspecies communication

The PAST-A-BOT research project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), is developing soft, intelligent textiles that could one day function as rescue robots, sound-sensing agricultural fabrics, or assistive clothing. At the same time, the project aims to rethink the way we approach materials research.

Chemical engineering has swept Veera away: “I’m so excited — this is what it’s all about!”

Veera Mettänen, a first-year master's student at Aalto University, is fascinated by nanoscale phenomena and the behavior of materials — that is, why things happen. In the future, she wants to develop into a good leader.
