Studies not leading to a degree

Examples of studies not leading to a degree:

• exchange studies (incoming students)
• individual courses as non-degree studies
• studies under the flexible study right agreement (JOO)
• studies under other agreements and through inter-university cooperation networks

Open University students do not need to create a study plan. They are registered for their courses automatically.

Study plan for studies not leading to a degree

Your studies are based on your study plan in Sisu, and you need a study plan to register for teaching. If you are pursuing studies that do not lead to a degree, your right to study may be strictly limited to specific courses.

Creating a study plan

1. Sign in to Sisu with the student role and go to the Structure of studies page.
2. Open the three-dot menu (…) on the right and select New study plan.
3. Select the education for which you want to create the study plan (if it is not already selected).
   • If you have several rights to study (e.g. for different fields), create a separate study plan for each.
   • In most cases, select the ongoing academic year or the current curriculum period as the curriculum period.
   • You may give your study plan a descriptive name.

Selecting courses in your study plan

1. Go to the Structure of studies page while signed in with the student role.
2. Click the pen icon to the right of the study module title
   • For the study module, the pen icon is the lower of the two.
3. In the window that opens, enter the course code in the Search for courses by name or code field and add the course to your plan by selecting it from the search results.
   • Note: You are not permitted to add or take courses other than those covered by your right to study. If you are pursuing studies not leading to a degree, do not use study drafts or the free edit mode.

If your study plan displays the notification ‘You do not have a study right that corresponds to your study plan or you have not registered for the current term’, make sure that the study plan template corresponds to your right to study.

• As exchange student, choose the study right Exchange studies (*) where asterisk is the abreviation of the responsible school of Aalto.
