Which career opportunities could Aalto open up for me? How do the different systems actually work? How could I gain international experience during my studies? Where can I find support for my well-being while studying? What can Espoo city offer me during my studies at Aalto? If you moved to Finland recently, you can get answers to many practical questions during the event!
At the fair, you will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the diverse services provided by Aalto University and our partners. At the exhibition booths, you can participate in activities, ask questions, and get to know people who can support you in your student life. Tips for a successful fair visit
- Time: In 30–60 minutes, you can calmly explore the most interesting booths, chat with exhibitors, grab some fair candy, and try the prize wheel.
- Prepare: Browse the exhibitors’ descriptions in advance. What would you like to explore in more depth? What remained unclear after the Pre-Orientation or your own orientation program?
- Find easily: Floor maps on the walls will guide you to the right booths.
- Be flexible if needed: There may be temporary crowds at the booths. Just before/after lectures, the upper floor is busier, while the lower floor is usually more spacious. If it feels like the time allocated in your orientation program isn’t enough for your visit, the fair is open 10:00–15:00 — welcome back!

The lecture Better Student Life at Aalto offers you a concise overview of who supports you in various situations during your studies. Whether you're selecting courses, refining your study techniques, identifying your strengths, researching thesis resources, or addressing IT issues, guidance is readily available. Additionally, for degree students, the lecture will offer valuable insights into employment in Finland and strategies to enhance your job prospects. At Aalto, you are not alone!

If you are staying in Finland for more than a year (regardless of your nationality), you are required to register your place of residence and your permanent municipality of residence in Finland. You do this in the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV). You find updated information about the registration practicalities at DVV website. You start the process by filling in a digital form online.
Instead of reserving an appointment to DVV-office, you can complete the registration at Aalto Otaniemi campus. This is the "joint visit" alternative mentioned at DVV website. This is a convenient way for completing the registration and DVV recommends you to utilize this option. Nevertheless, it's essential that you prepare the documentation carefully and that you are prepared to wait for your turn for some time.
Follow these steps when you register at Otaniemi campus on Thu 27th August, Fri 28th August or Fri 4th September 2026:
- Complete the digital registration notice of a foreigner in advance at DVV website. (Instead of reserving an appointment to DVV-office, DVV recommends you to complete the registration at Aalto Otaniemi campus on Thu 27th August, Fri 28th August at 10.00-15.00 or Fri 4th September at 10.00-13.00. This is the "joint visit" alternative mentioned at DVV website.)
- Find the DVV registration point at Undergraduate Center (Otakaari 1, room M102). Take your place in the queue by using the QR-code you find on the wall. Wait for your turn. Follow your place in the queue on your mobile device and arrive to the registration point latest when you are 6th in line. While you wait for your turn, you can use your time for other activities. On Thu 27th August you can visit the exhibition booths of Aalto Welcome Fair while waiting.
- Complete the registration in a brief meeting with the official. Registration runs smoothly when you have the necessary documentation at hand.
Please note the following things to make your registration process as smooth as possible:
- DVV needs your complete address, also the apartment number, so check it before the appointment.
- DVV can also issue a Finnish personal identity code for you if you haven’t already received one from the Finnish Immigration Service or the Finnish Tax Administration.
- DVV personnel can process a large number of registrations during these days, this is a convenient way for you to register and we recommend you to use this option. (If you have already reserved an appointment to DVV office, you may keep it and register at DVV office.)

This year’s theme is Be heard and be seen in traffic. Come explore Espoo’s diverse cycling opportunities and pick up tips for safe cycling and getting around. At the booth, you can talk with sustainable mobility experts, get practical advice on improving your visibility in traffic, and test your traffic safety knowledge.
HelsinkiMissio Crisis Services for Youth offers free short-term councelling and crisis help for youth and young adults between the ages 12 and 29, online or live at Kamppi. You can speak freely to our crisis workers about whatever is troubling you. We aim to prevent young people from feeling all alone when they are in some difficulty. Come and meet us at the Welcome fair!
Hoas has more than 10 000 student apartments in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, and Kauniainen. Our properties are located in many different areas always close to schools or good public transportation. Hoas tenants have many services to make student’s life easier. Internet connection is free for everyone, and sauna and laundry are yours to book free of charge.

The HSL (Helsinki Region Transport) pop-up service point is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10.00 to 16.00 at the main lobby of the Undergraduate Centre (Otakaari 1). At the service point, you can obtain or update a HSL card.
Please note, that at the service point you cannot top up your travel card, but that can be done at a ticket machine or sales point.

We at Aalto University IT Services ensure that you and other university students have access to all the information systems, services and software you need for your studies.
How do I activate my Aalto ID? Where can I store my files? How do I take care of information security? Multifactor authentication, what do I need to know? Where can I find printers?
We are happy to answer these and other questions at the IT services stand at the fair.

International House Helsinki (IHH) provides a wide range of information and public services to meet the needs of international newcomers. We can provide you with general guidance and information about life in the Helsinki capital region and the services provided by the cities of Helsinki, Espoo, and Vantaa.
Our IHH service centre in Sörnäinen is also where you as an international newcomer can:
- register your EU citizen's right of residence.
- get your personal identity code.
- register your municipality of residence and notify a change of address.
- get your tax card and receive tax counselling.
- get help in determining if you are eligible for social security and benefits.
- register as a jobseeker.
International Student Peer Advice (ISPA) is a service for Aalto University's international degree students. International student advisors help students with questions about moving to and living in Finland. The advisors are international students themselves, so they have first-hand experience of moving to Finland to study at Aalto.

At the Welcome fair, Language Centre teachers will answer your questions about language and communication studies at Aalto university.
Do you have questions about tuition fees at Aalto University? Come meet us and ask away! In addition to questions related to tuition fees, you can also ask what kind of scholarships are available for Aalto’s tuition-fee students.
Apply for the registration of your right of residence (EU registration) if:
- you are a citizen of an EU Member State, Liechtenstein or Switzerland; and
- you will be staying in Finland for over 3 months at a time.
You do not need to register your right of residence if you are staying in Finland for 3 months or less at a time. The calculation of the 3-month residence always restarts from the moment when you return to Finland after travelling outside its borders.
Instead of reserving an appointment to service point of the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri), you can identify yourself at Aalto Otaniemi campus. This is a convenient way for the registration and Migri recommends you to utilize this option. Nevertheless, it's essential that you have prepared the documentation carefully and that you are prepared to wait for your turn for some time.
Migri will only handle the EU-citizens identifications during the visit. This means that the application will not be fully handled during the visit, but Migri will check your passport/ID and that you have filled in the electronic application. This way you will not need an appointment at the Service Point in Helsinki. The application will be activated later that day/week. If we have any questions or something is missing, we will contact you through Enter Finland. The decision will be done later and you will get the decision to your Enter Finland account.
Follow these steps when you register at Otaniemi campus on Thu 27th August 2026:
- Fill in the electronic application in Enter Finland. All applicants must fill and pay the electronic application in Enter Finland. Paper applications are not accepted. More information about the EU-registration, please see: Registration of right of residence | Maahanmuuttovirasto
- Find the Immigration services registration point at Aalto Welcome Fair.
- Complete the identification in a brief meeting with the official. Identification runs smoothly when you have the necessary documentation at hand.
Please note the following things to make your registration process as smooth as possible:
- Fill the application, attach the documents, pay the application fee (53€) and send the application.
- Attach to your application the following documents:
- passport or ID-card
- documents as proof of your studies, for example certificate of attendance from your educational institution
- assurance of having sufficient financial resources for yourself
- Migri’s officer cannot scan anything to your Enter Finland account.
- Take your passport/ID with you to the visit.

The Aalto psychologists guide and support you when you are feeling stuck with your studies or career prospects. Study-related stress, anxiety, motivational problems and life circumstances may overshadow studies and your future plans. The study and career guidance psychologists can offer you individual and group guidance as well as workshops in order to make well-being in studies and in working life possible.

The Starting Point of Wellbeing offers students easy access to counselling and advice on matters of well-being and study ability. The services available to you include drop-in (no reservation) advising/counselling sessions, peer support groups, and online materials. Finnish Student Health Service, also known as the FSHS, is your support for your well-being and health.
FSHS Services are for those students who have enrolled as attending students at a Finnish university or university of applied sciences. FSHS offers general health care services, mental health care services and oral health care services. Before booking an appointment, call us or visit our YTHSDigi online service for an assessment of your need for treatment. The health care fee for students in higher education is paid to Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. FSHS does not charge for appointments.
