Technology Sector Finnish

The Technology sector Finnish project develops models to integrate Finnish language learning into an English-language degree program in technology in order to support international students' employability. The project is conducted in the English-language Bachelor of Science and Technology program in years 2025-2027 as a collaboration between Aalto University Language Centre and School of Electrical Engineering. The Aalto sub-project is part of the larger project, Linguistic competence pathways for immigrants in labour shortage sectors in the Helsinki metropolitan area, coordinated by the University of Helsinki and co-funded by the European Union.

Students will learn to communicate in simple everyday situations and in situations typical in their studies and in working life, as well as in slightly more challenging situations when they receive support. During the program, students will build a portfolio that they can use when seeking employment. Students will develop strategies to continue learning Finnish in their everyday life, studies and work.
