Instructions for sitting an exam in an exam hall

• Register for the exam in time (one week before the exam at the latest).
• Exams start exactly on the hour; arrive at the exam location on time.
• Confirm the location of the exam hall sufficiently ahead of time.
• Please take your ID with you to the exam!
• Check to see that your name is on the list of exam-takers, which is posted outside the exam hall (Note: This applies to exams organised for degree students). If your name is not on the list, you cannot take the exam.
• Turn off your mobile device. Bags, coats, etc. must be left by the walls at the side or in the front of the exam hall. You may only take your ID and writing utensils (and water bottle, if necessary) with you to your seat. If calculators are needed, the exam monitors will provide them.
• If you have any questions (e.g. you want more paper), raise your hand and the exam monitor will come to you.
• To avoid misunderstandings, keep your attention focused on your own work.
• Exam monitors have the right to remove exam-takers from the examination if they suspect cheating. (If you are found cheating, a disciplinary process may be started.)
• You can enter the exam hall no later than 30 minutes after the exam officially commences. You can leave the exam hall no earlier than 35 minutes after the exam officially commences.
• Return all exam papers. If you don’t want to have your examination graded, please write clearly on the paper: ‘Please do not grade my paper’. If your exam is graded with a passing grade, it will be entered into the register as a ‘study attainment’ and it may not be removed for any reason. Failing grades are also entered into register, but they are not shown in transcripts of study records. A grade may be raised by retaking the examination, and the best grade obtained will remain on the transcript.
• You must verify your identity when returning your exam papers.

Open University examination halls are located on Otaniemi campus in the Undergraduate Centre. The street address is: Otakaari 1, Espoo. Students taking the exam must arrive no later than 30 minutes after the start; in other words, 16.30 is the latest time when exam-takers may enter the exam hall. You can leave at 16.35 at the earliest. Please note: Exam hall information is subject to change. Access cards or tokens are not needed to enter the exam hall.
