Rankings and reputation
The departments in our school are very well respected in their fields, and many rank among the top programmes in international surveys, year for year. Art and design field at Aalto University rose up to 6th position at the international QS University Ranking in 2023.
Aalto Department of Architecture is ranked highest in Finland and among the top fifty (#48) architecture schools in the world (QS 2023). Projects by the department are nominated for national and international awards, such as the Finlandia Prize (2018) and the ArchDaily Building of the Year award (2018).
Both our Fashion programme and Photography programme sent students as finalists to the esteemed Hyères Festival of Fashion and Photography in 2019, this time returning with awards in each category. Our students won awards for seven years in row. In 2019, the Business of Fashion ranked the Aalto BA programme in Fashion amongst the best in the world.
The Aalto Department of Film, also known as ELO, educates film professionals for practically the entire Finnish film industry. In 2017, Aalto students and faculty completed over 40 productions, one third of which were awarded by the leading peer-reviewed international forums. Films by graduates and current students are regularly shown at international festivals and competitions.
