Survey and Audience Interaction Tools

researchers.
Supported survey tools
These tools are recommended to use for surveys and questionnaires in research, studies and university operations. These tools meet the IT security and compliance requirements on contracts, GDPR, accessibility, etc.
Webropol
All-purpose tool for creating surveys and questionnaires. Available to students and staff. Simple to start, but allows for advanced features like implementing statistical and quality-related analyses of data. Support available from Aalto IT.
Microsoft Forms
Microsoft Forms is a lightweight, easy-to-use survey, quiz, and polling tool included with Microsoft 365, available for students and staff at Aalto University. It’s ideal for quick feedback, basic event RSVPs, and simple questionnaires when integration with Teams / Sharepoint is preferred. Aalto IT provides no support for Microsoft forms.
Google Forms
Google Forms is a tool for creating surveys, quizzes, and registration forms. It’s part of Google Workspace, and available for students and staff at Aalto University. Great for quick feedback, sign-ups, and simple questionnaires to connect with other Google apps. Aalto IT provides no support for Google Forms.
REDCap
REDCap is a data collection tool suitable for sensitive data. In addition to high security, it offers advanced tools for branching and longitudinal data collection. The flexible design and security features require more thorough preparation and unless the data collected is sensitive, in some cases Webropol can be easier to use. Webropol is the standard tool for data collection through questionnaires in Aalto. Supported by Aalto IT.
Survey tools for special purposes
There are some additional survey tools available for limited use by school or purpose:
- Qualtrics (BIZ only): Advanced tool for creating research questionnaires. BIZ staff and students can request access using this form.
- Maptionnaire (ENG only): Survey tool that enables collecting spatial data (locations) with questionnaires.
- AidoQ: Data collection app for mobile phones, questionnaires inside app, etc. Allowed for collection of health data.
- SOILE (MAGICS): Data collection platform for researchers, developed at Aalto University. Managed by MAGICS research infrastructure.

Not supported survey tools
Please note that other tools like Limesurvey or Surveymonkey are not supported at Aalto University, consider Webropol instead. If you have to use another tool not listed above, check the instructions at: https://www.aalto.fi/en/it-services/5-questions-before-acquiring-software-or-digital-services
Audience interaction tools
These online tools let presenters engage participants in real time during classes, meetings, and events. Aalto IT supports these tools and they meet the IT security and compliance requirements on contracts, GDPR, accessibility, etc.
Mentimeter
Mentimeter is a web-based tool for creating interactive presentations with live polls, quizzes, word clouds, Q&A, and surveys.
Presemo
Presemo is a web-based audience interaction platform for events, classes, and workshops.
Other interaction tools
Kahoot and other similar interaction tools are not supported by Aalto IT. Use Mentimeter instead.
