How to apply to Aalto

Aalto University has an extensive selection of different programmes and multiple student selections. On this page you can find information on how to apply to Aalto as well as links to the application guidelines and admission criteria for bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes.

Application periods for studies starting in 2024

  1. Applying to master's programmes: 30 November 2023 – 2 January 2024
  2. Joint application to higher education, spring 2024 (Bachelor's programmes in English): 3 – 17 January 2024
  3. Joint application to Finnish/Swedish degree programmes, spring 2024 (Bachelor's programmes in Finnish/Swedish): 13 – 27 March 2024

Applying to Bachelor's Programmes

The application period for bachelor's programmes in English is 3–17 January 2024 for studies starting in autumn 2024.

Admission to Bachelor's Programme in Design, Bachelor and Master of Arts (3 yrs + 2 yrs)

The application period for the Bachelor's Programme in Design is organised 3-17 January 2024. Applicants are selected to complete the degrees Bachelor and Master of Arts. This page is currently being updated and the admission instructions for the 2024 application round will be published by 25 September 2023.

Admission to Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology, Bachelor and Master of Science in Technology (3 yrs + 2 yrs)

The application period for Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology (taught in English) is organised 3 - 17 January 2024. Applicants are selected to complete the degrees Bachelor and Master of Science in Technology. Admission is based on either the SAT or the ACT test results or on the grades obtained in the Finnish Matriculation Examination, or in the IB, EB or DIA/RP diploma.

Admission to the Bachelor’s Programme in Economics, Bachelor and Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration (3 + 2 years)

The application period for Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Economics (taught in English) will be organised 3 - 17 January 2024. Applicants are selected to complete the degrees Bachelor and Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration. Admission is based on either SAT/ACT test results or grades obtained in Finnish Matriculation Examination, IB-, EB- or RP/DIA -degree. There are also admission groups based on applicants performance in Talousguru, Finnish National High School Mathematics Competition or Datatähti contest (13 - 27 March 2024).

Economics-kandidaattiohjelma

Admission to the Bachelor's Programme in International Business, Bachelor (Mikkeli) and Master (Otaniemi) of Science in Economics and Business Administration (3 yrs + 2 yrs)

The application period for Bachelor’s Programme in International Business (taught in English) will be organised during the application period for Joint Application to Higher Education during 3–17 January 2024 (admission groups I-III). Applicants are selected to pursue a BSc degree (Econ. and Bus. Admin.) in the Bachelor’s Programme in International Business at the School of Business Mikkeli Campus and a MSc degree (Econ. and Bus. Admin.) in one of the School of Business Master’s programmes at the Otaniemi Campus.

Transfer application

Students may apply for transfer to a bachelor’s programme or study option if they hold a right to study towards a bachelor’s and master's degree at another Finnish higher education institution or towards a different degree at Aalto University.

The admissions to the two-year master’s programmes at Aalto University are organised once a year.
The application period for studies beginning in the autumn of 2024 runs from 30 November 2023 to 2 January 2024.

Doctoral education

International Joint Degree Programmes

Aalto University offers international joint degree programmes at master-level together with its partner universities in over 20 countries. These programmes have separate application periods and admission procedures from the rest of the master's programmes offered by Aalto University.

Scholarships and Tuition Fees

Bachelor's and Master's programmes have a tuition fee for non-EU/EEA citizens. Prospective students subject to tuition fees can apply for Aalto University Scholarship.
