Network home directory and redirection on classroom Macs
On classroom Macs and computers for public use (the log-in screen says Public) users’ home directories are located on the home.org.aalto.fi network disk.
Since some Mac programs do not support this solution, some parts of the home directory tree have directed to local disks on computers by means of symbolic links.
At the moment (information last updated on 8 February 2018), the following branches of the home directory are directed to a local disk, under /l/redirections/user ID/:
Redirection is made with a script that is run during log-in.
Please note that files saved in the directories mentioned above are not backed up, and their contents are not transferred if the user changes from one computer to the next.
Restoring a file (Windows, Mac, Linux)
With an Aalto workstation, you can restore previous versions of your files from folders on the Home or Work disks.
Printing with Canon multi-function devices (Mac and SecurePrint)
The printer queue and its drivers are automatically installed on OS X 10.7 and newer Mac computers in maintenance by the IT Services, so you do not have to worry about the deployment of the printer queue.
Aalto-Mac: changing the password
In Aalto Mac, changing the password is done in different ways according to the macOS version. Check the instructions from your own Mac for the recommended way.
Aalto Mac: application distribution (Managed Software Center)
You can install or remove optional programs on an Aalto Mac through application distribution of the Managed Software Center.
