Working experience as part of your degree
Practical training is highly recommended to master students. The practicalities and credit amount may vary based on your major. Please see the major specific information and instructions below.
You can include 1-5 cr of practical training to master’s degree (elective studies). Two weeks of full-time work (37,5 – 40 h / week) equals 1 credit point (max 10 weeks=5 cr).
The practical training consists of a work placement in a suitable company or other work community. The tasks should be typical for the later M.Sc. work profiles. You are responsible to find the practical training placement by yourself.

You can include a maximum of 5 cr of practical training in your master’s degree. The training is done via the course ELEC-E7990 Professional Training 2 - 5 cr. You should register for this course in Sisu. Practical training is included in the elective studies module in the degree.
We recommend that you participate in the course ELEC-E7990 Professional training after the first year of your master’s studies. However, the course is available at all times during the academic year.
You are responsible to find the practical training placement by yourself, and it should be approved by the course teachers beforehand as part of the preliminary assignment of the course.

Students at the School of Chemical Engineering can include one of the two professional training courses into their master's degree:
CHEM-E0130 Professional Training (3–5 cr)
CHEM-E0135 International Professional Training (3–5 cr)

Please make sure to agree about the course with the professor responsible for your major in advance of completing it.
Aalto University wants to support students' internationalisation and work experience, and internship grants are available for students who meet the criteria. You can apply for a grant for an internship abroad or in Finland. Make sure to first negotiate about the possibility to include internship in your degree with the responsible persons in your own degree programme at Aalto University.
