What do you do for work?

I work as a professor of microsystem technology, as well as the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation since the beginning of 2026. My research focuses on the development of carbon-based nanomaterials, and the study of their structure and properties. In this work, I utilise both experimental and computational methods. I also investigate how these materials can be applied in practice, for example when it comes to needs of diagnostics or environmental monitoring.

What acts of inclusion do you do in your work?

To me, equality is above all about opportunities to start on an equal footing – even if afterwards people progress at different paces. One of my tasks is to build these equal jump-off points. From there, I encourage everyone to find their own path (as long as they respect the laws of thermodynamics).

I strive to treat people equally and with respect, while taking into account their individual differences, such as personality or life situation. In my interactions with others, I find it important to distinguish between people and issues at hand; I do not heedlessly reject other people's thoughts or try to dictate truths, but rather try to understand why others think the way they do. I encourage people to express their ideas by creating a safe and positive atmosphere, where at times even bad humor can lighten the mood.

Lastly, I think everyone should make mistakes, since there's much to learn from them – and, afterwards, the world is full of opportunities to make new mistakes and learn even more!
