The Dean of the School of Business will honor students for their outstanding contributions to promoting sustainable development

The Dean’s Impact Award is intended to show appreciation for promoting sustainable development and activities in line with Aalto’s values
Dean's Impact Award

The Dean of the School of Business, Timo Korkeamäki, annually rewards students of the school who have completed their degree within the target time and with excellent grades. This recognition (entry to the Dean’s list) is given to around thirty students who graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics and Business Administration during the previous academic year.

In addition to this, the dean also wants to reward students for activities and actions that are not directly reflected in grades. ‘Again this autumn, as in 2023, 2024 and 2025, I will reward 1–3 Bachelor’s or Master’s level students or student teams for their actions in promoting sustainable development,’ says Timo Korkeamäki.

Criteria for the Dean’s Impact Award

The award may be given to a Bachelor’s or Master’s level student or student team who has been nominated with justification within the given time. Anyone (from Aalto or outside Aalto) may submit nominations for a student or student team to be rewarded. If you nominate yourself for the award, you must at the same time provide the names and contact details of two referees, who must be reachable for further enquiries.

The award can be granted for many different kinds of merits. The student or student team to be rewarded may have taken significant action to promote a more sustainable future at Aalto or more broadly. This may be a concrete deed, exemplary activity or some other matter that demonstrates impactful work for sustainable development. Here too, sustainable development covers environmental, social and economic sustainability. Activity that is in line with Aalto’s values is also highly appreciated. If the actions clearly demonstrate responsibility, courage and/or collaboration, it is possible to be rewarded with the Dean’s Impact Award.

Nominations with justifications by 7 October

Nominations with justifications must be sent in writing by email to the Executive Assistant Iina Salmela at iina.salmela(at)aalto.fi no later than 7 October 2026. Attachments may also be sent in support of the nomination, if needed. There are no specific formal requirements for the nominations and their justifications. The subject line of the email must read Dean’s Impact Award: ‘and your own title’, so that the nominations can be clearly distinguished from other messages.

The dean will make the final decision on one or more award recipients (à 1,000 euros) after first discussing the matter with representatives of KY. News about the awarded students and their merits in this context will be published in the School of Business communication channels by the end of 2026.
