Microbes are used to produce goods and perform conversions across industries for food and beverage fermentation, pharmaceutical production (e.g., antibiotics, insulin, nutraceuticals), wastewater treatment, bioremediation of pollutants, agricultural improvements and so much more. Each microbial strain has its own properties and within the close to $ 10 Bln (>10% CAGR) Microbial Technology market, there is a constant search for improved and optimized strains.
i-ALE is a new approach to develop improved and optimized strains. We use computational models and data to guide an adaptive evolution process (not genetic engineering) for developing strains with valuable traits that other strain development approaches struggle to deliver. Within this R2B project, we seek to use i-ALE to develop ±6 strains with strong competitive advantage and high market value and initiate their commercialization. We want to pave the way to either establish a method and portfolio that can be exploited by an existing company; or to create a company in 2028 that continues to develop its own portfolio of strains to commercialize.
We seek commercialization with international clients to generate export revenue and with national clients to strengthen their competitive position in the global market. Along the way, we expect to directly and indirectly contribute to numerous sustainable development goals and create specialized high-income jobs for both wet and dry lab workers and industry-specific salespeople.
