Non-human living forms can have features we find unpleasant but understanding them is essential for learning to coexist and collaborate.

The habitat of non-human agents is not always pleasant to humans. Fermentation is vital to the bacteria and yeast living in it, but it produces a distinctive smell that many people find unpleasant.

At the same time, the smell is a sign of life. Our project is about honouring non-human life and creating multispecies interaction.

In this kombucha installation, visitors are welcome to take a smell of SCOBY reality. The exhibition presents two living SCOBY cultures. By opening the cap, you can smell the SCOBY living its best life in its luxurious glass homes. One of them is living in a classic back tea, while the other fully embraces the holidays in a glögi bath. SCOBY is breathing through a carbon filter that is located in the crack of the wooden base, keeping the aroma inside.
