Aalto Alumni Weekend – a versatile event for 1,400 participants at Dipoli

Aalto University’s largest alumni event, Aalto Alumni Weekend, brought together alumni from all three of the university’s fields - technology, business, and arts and design - in October 2025 at Dipoli on the Aalto University campus. The event, attended by 1,400 participants, was held at Dipoli for the first time.

The diverse program featured inspiring keynote talks for a seated audience, and participants could choose from four program tracks that allowed them to explore a topical theme in greater depth under the guidance of leading experts. The day culminated in an atmospheric evening celebration to the music of Boston Promenade. During the evening, guests also had the opportunity to watch short films made by film students as well as the Radical Creatives documentary.

Dipoli provided a striking setting and a unique atmosphere for our event,” says Ville Hakulinen, Alumni Engagement Manager at Aalto University. The building’s distinctive architecture and modern facilities offer an unforgettable experience for all visitors, and for alumni who celebrated here during their student years, the venue is especially nostalgic.

Dipoli’s helpful staff and smooth collaboration played a significant role in the success of the event: “With the support of friendly and professional staff, the arrangements progressed seamlessly, and the spaces worked excellently for running a diverse program.” One of Dipoli’s key advantages is its versatile and scalable facilities, which make it possible to host very different types of events and programs, even simultaneously.

Dipoli has already been booked for the next Alumni Weekend event. “We were extremely satisfied with our choice,” Hakulinen concludes.

International Winter Satellite Workshop Conference at Dipoli

      Dipoli entrance

The Winter Satellite Workshop conference, held in January 2025 at Dipoli, is the largest New Space event in Finland, in other Nordic countries, and in the Baltic region. Event is organized by Aalto University in collaboration with the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Space Science and Technology, the Remote Sensing Club, Business Finland, and the Finnish Space Administration. Winter Satellite Workshop brings annually together space technology experts, researchers, and students to discuss current topics in the rapidly evolving space sector.

This year was the sixth time the Winter Satellite Workshop was hosted at Dipoli. "The conference is organized by a research group from Aalto University, so Dipoli as the venue is a natural choice for us," said Jaan Praks from Aalto University's School of Electrical Engineering, who was the main organizer of the event. Dipoli's central location and connection to the university's broader activities make it an ideal venue for even larger seminars.

This year, the Winter Satellite Workshop conference welcomed approximately 1,500 participants, but the growth goals are clear. "This year's event was bigger than ever, and I believe we can further increase attendance over the next few years. The spaces are highly adaptable, and Dipoli could easily accommodate 2,000 participants without any issues," estimated Jaan Praks. Dipoli's scalability for larger events makes it an attractive venue for future needs as well.

The helpful staff at Dipoli and smooth collaboration have been significant factors in the event's success. "Our long experience in hosting the event at Dipoli has evolved into seamless cooperation, which simplifies the organization and provides confidence in project execution," Jaan Praks explained. The positive feedback from the event further solidifies Dipoli's reputation as a venue. "Participants have praised Dipoli as an interesting conference location," Jaan noted. The building's unique architecture and modern facilities offer an unforgettable experience for speakers, participants, and visitors alike.

The national Innokas programming and robotics tournament

        robot tournament

The annual national Innokas programming and robotics tournament was held in May 2023 for the third time in Espoo and in Dipoli for the second time. The Espoo-based Innokas network activates schools to support the learning of skills in the 2000s by organising trainings, consultations, and events around Finland.

In the Innokas programming and robotics tournament, children, and primary school pupils participate in various programming and robotics competitions. This year, about 60 teams participated in the competitions, making a total of almost 200 students. Student's personal teams, officials and organizers were also actively involved in the event.

Dipoli was chosen as the venue for the Innokas tournament due to its versatile facilities and available technology. Good experiences of the staff and the possibility to organize participants' meals flexibly influenced the choice of venue. Also Dipoli's location with good transport connections on the Aalto University campus was an asset. Dipoli's architecture and interesting space solutions were ideal for an innovative event.

        event banner

In spring 2023, the European Accountancy Association (EAA) congress was held at Dipoli and the Undergraduate Centre, with up to 1,200 participants from around the world. This international congress is repeated once a year and was now organised for the third time in Finland.  Aalto University and the City of Espoo participated in the organisation of the event.

The purpose of the EAA congress is to raise the level of European research and, among other things, to provide doctoral students a platform for presentations and networking. Nearly 800 presentations were held at the Undergraduate Centre and Dipoli during the three-day event. Dipoli also gathered all event guests to larger joint events and daily lunch, which Compass Group organized offering mainly vegetarian dishes.

A successful congress requires good planning and well-functioning arrangements during the event. The schedule of the EAA congress was planned so that the transitions on campus went smoothly and people had time for networking. Special thanks were given to the Dipoli's premises and the event's 25 assistants, who guided guests on campus. Aalto University is able to offer an excellent setting even for a large congresses.

Academic environment brought value to the Audio Engineering Society event

        AES logo

In May 2023, The Audio Engineering Society organised an international convention in Dipoli, which gathered audio experts all over the world. The Aalto University campus and Dipoli were chosen as the venue because AES's wanted to organize the event in an academic environment instead of a traditional exhibition or conference centre. There was also a desire to highlight science more at the convention. Aalto University professors are very active participants in the organisation, and the academic expertise of the event was organised through the university.

More than 400 guests from around the world praised the successful arrangements of the campus and Dipoli's staff. Dipoli's architecture and stylish premises received also a positive feedback. International event guests were already familiar with the fact that Finns have been proven to be the happiest nation in the world, and after the convention this image had only become stronger.
