Description

Master’s Programme in Manufacturing and its study track Zero Defect Manufacture for a Circular Economy (ZD) is an international double degree programme supported by EIT Manufacturing. The programme is a combination of studying manufacturing science including physics of equipment and processes, data analysis, including the methodology to use gained process data in the context of process quality, and process management including the flexibility enabled for smaller lot production.

A student who graduates from the Zero-Defect Manufacture for a Circular Economy programme (ZD) shall:

  • be able to implement the gained engineering expertise in ZD to create new or improved methods, techniques, products, and services in the field;
  • be able to think out-of-the-box to find innovative solutions to real-world problems and to come up with new ideas;
  • be able to draw up plans and to make decisions foreseeing future consequences from a scientific, ethical, and societal perspective;
  • be able to turn innovations in the area into feasible and successful business solutions;
  • be able to profitably work in small size teams and contexts by taking into account all relevant elements and showing effective decision-making and leadership abilities.

Language of instruction

The language of instruction of the programme is English.

Structure of studies

The programme is a double degree programme, which means that you will study at two European universities and in two different countries. Upon fulfilment of all degree requirements, students receive two degrees: one from the entry university and another one from the exit university.

The universities partners in Zero Defect Manufacture for Circular Economy (ZD) are currently:

  • Aalto University, Finland
  • University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland
  • Grenoble INP, France
  • University of Trento (UNITN), Italy

Please note that both entry and exit universities might be subject to changes. Kindly check the programme website before applying.

During the first year students are committed to study a total of 40-50 ECTS technical courses and 10-20 ECTS Innovation and Entrepreneurship courses (60 ECTS total) whereas in the second year studies consist of 10-20 ECTS of technical courses, 10-20 ECTS of innovation and entrepreneurship courses and 30 ECTS for the Master’s thesis (60 ECTS total).

The curriculum at Aalto University is published in Student Guide.

Specialisations

The students can select their preferred first (entry) and second (exit) year universities. Each university has a unique specialisation area, which allows students to select their own second year area of expertise. At Aalto University, students can learn manufacturing science including physics of equipment and processes, data analysis, including the methodology to use gained process data in the context of process quality, and process management including the flexibility enabled for smaller lot production. Read more on the programme website.

Internationalisation

The programme is a double degree programme with integrated, mandatory geopraphical mobility.This means that you will study at two European universities and in two different countries. Upon fulfilment of all degree requirements, students receive two degrees: one from the entry university and another one from the exit university. In addition, you receive an EIT Label Certificate.
