Description
Master's Programme in Urban Mobility implements a holistic approach in facing different issues traditionally faced by architects and urban planners, civil and transport engineers, and public policy analysts. The student would learn different practical skills and broad knowledge of theories and concepts in urban planning, transport and sustainability. This includes gaining the ability to envision, identify and assess short- and long-term future consequences of plans and decisions, and develop insights of the role that transport and mobility systems have in creating an inclusive, resilient and sustainable built environment. Knowledge base will aim for including a wide range of perspectives, from understanding people's daily lives and mobility technologies to large-scale strategic and systemic thinking.

Tuition fees and scholarships
All sudents admitted to Master's Programme in Urban Mobility are eligible for scholarships and liable for tuition fees according to EIT Urban Mobility's tuition fee & scholarship scheme. Students are not liable for paying tuiton fees to Aalto University or eligible for Aalto University scholarships. EIT Urban Mobility scholarship scheme is subject to annual updates. Structure of studies
The programme is a double degree programme, which means that you will study at two European universities and in two different countries. The programme has an integrated technical content (Technical major) and business content (Innovation & Entrepreneurship – I&E minor). The I&E minor is shared between all programmes. An integral part of the second year is a Master’s thesis (30 ECTS). Please note that both ENTRY and EXIT universities might be subject to changes. Kindly check before applying.
During the first year, a similar set of courses are offered at all the involved entry points. This includes learning on how to develop a strategic plan for urban areas, evaluate different data gathering and analysis approaches, and use them to analyze the dynamics of urban mobility systems, evaluate the plausible impacts of emerging mobility technologies, promoting behavioral change, and apply urban and transport appraisal methodologies. In addition, some elective courses may be chosen to prepare for a specialisation. An important part of the programme are also the Innovation and & Entrepreneurship (I&E) courses, in line with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) initiative.
During the second year of studies, the student chooses a specialisation option offered in one of the exit point universities: Aalto University, KTH, TU Eindhoven, UPC Barcelona, University of Tartu or University of Lisbon-Técnico IST. The specialisation option includes sustainability transition and responsible innovations, governance and planning for global mobility cultures and cities, strategies for integrated transport systems management, and decision-making analysis in transport and logistics.

Specialisations
The double-degree programme is implemented jointly by leading European universities. The students can select their preferred first (entry) and second (exit) year universities. Each university has a unique specialisation area, which allows students to select their own second year area of expertise. At Aalto University, students can learn about travel behavior and emerging mobility technologies, transport system dynamics, integrated planning and policy approaches, especially in relation to land use and participatory planning, as well as about foresight and modeling techniques.
Internationalisation
The programme is a double degree programme with integrated, mandatory geographical mobility.This means that you will study at two European universities and in two different countries. Upon fulfilment of all degree requirements, students receive two degrees: one from the entry university and another one from the exit university.
Further study opportunities
Graduates of the programme are awarded Master of Science (Technology) degree which grants them a great foundation for doctoral studies and post-doc positions at Aalto University or internationally. In addition, a similar degree is awarded by the other institution where the student completed the programme, widening the further study and career opportunities internationally.
Career opportunities
Inclusive, resilient, and sustainable urban transport system is crucial to create liveable and prosperous city. The skills learned in this programme would be highly demanded by various city and transport authorities and industries across Europe and worldwide, with an increasing trend of new and intersectoral employment domains. The possible future career for the graduates includes city planner, experiment managers, technology strategist, public participation coordinators, policy advocates and advisers. During the master programme experience, the students will learn through challenge-driven courses and work with the local stakeholders, as well as with larger group of city club and industry partners across different part of the Europe, to address the real innovation challenges in urban mobility today and in the future.
Research focus
The student would learn different practical research skills and broad knowledge of theories and concepts in urban planning, transport and sustainability.

Master's Programme in Urban Mobility and its study track Sustainable Urban Mobility Transitions (SUMT) are implemented by Aalto University in cooperation with its European partner universities and EIT Urban Mobility (EIT UM). EIT Urban Mobility is supported by European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), and organ of the European Union. Education and training are at heart of EIT innovation model.
