Aalto University School of Business has appointed Suzanne Innes-Stubb, who holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree, as Executive in Residence for business law. Part of the Department of Accounting and Business Law, Innes-Stubb’s three-year, part-time contract will begin on 1 September 2024.

Innes-Stubb’s role supports the School of Business’s objective of providing timely business-world expertise in the discipline of business law. Responsible business practices are one of the school’s focal research areas.

’Business law as a major at the School of Business is continuously growing in popularity. Suzanne Innes-Stubb’s specialisation in responsible business practices strengthens our discipline,’ says Aalto University School of Business Dean Timo Korkeamäki.

Innes-Stubb currently works at the Helsinki-based Kone Corporation as Vice President, Global Compliance. Under her leadership, the global compliance team is responsible for the Code of Conduct and human rights programmes, as well as sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption issues, in addition to work against harassment and discrimination. She previously worked for the Sanoma Group, where she handled matters related to competition law, ethics and compliance.

As Executive in Residence, Innes-Stubb will, for example, teach Master’s-level elective classes on business law. The Department of Accounting and Business Law will determine the precise make-up of tasks related to the role.

´I am very excited to be joining Aalto University as an Executive in Residence and I look forward to sharing my knowledge with the next generation of professionals at the School of Business. I believe that I will also develop myself professionally in the academic world,’ says Suzanne Innes-Stubb.

Innes-Stubb holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Surrey, where she studied law, French and German. She is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales. In 1995 she earned a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in European law at the College of Europe, located in Bruges, Belgium. Innes-Stubb is married to the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, who began his term on 1 March 2024.

The Executive in Residence role supports the Aalto University School of Business’s goal of building bridges between the business world and research and teaching. The Dean appoints the individual on the basis of a department’s recommendation. Individuals operating in the role are typically leading experts in industry and business. The length of the term is for three years (renewable once) and tasks most typically include mentoring, teaching or research. Currently, Taavi Heikkilä, Osmo Soininvaara and Henry Tirri act as Executives in Residence at the Aalto University School of Business.
