I have always been interested in urban structures and real estate: from both a technical and architectural perspective. In upper secondary school, I became interested in business studies, but perhaps I didn't know how to see myself as an economist. I have always been talented in mathematical and scientific subjects, as well as having a creative side and a certain kind of thinking skills "outside the box". I wanted an industry where I could combine all these qualities. During my prep year, the idea of studying for a Master of Science in Technology became clear to me, but only a suitable field was missing.
When the reform of the bachelor's programme at the School of Engineering took place, I was struck by the bachelor's programme in real estate economics and geoinformatics and got excited. However, accepting the study place was very exciting, as the program was new. During the first major courses, it was cool to realize that professors talked a lot about things that I had previously pondered on my own. That's when I knew this program was the perfect choice for me.
Studying is very independent, which creates freedom, but also responsibility. In my opinion, students could be compared to self-employed: everyone works for themselves and bears the fruits of their own work. In addition, every day is different and it is wonderful to be able to decide on your schedules and really influence your degree structure. Most days consist of a few lectures on campus, lunch and shared study moments with friends. In addition, the extensive campus area offers many things to do while studying. The campus offers good opportunities for sports, outdoor activities or even spending the evening. I love my everyday life at Aalto.
Aalto is incredibly versatile, and it is probably not possible to choose only one best course. The best course I took last spring was project planning and supervision. During the course, concrete case exercises were carried out and tools for project management were taught hands-on. This course has been very useful in my summer job with construction project management.
The best thing about studying at Aalto is the wide range of courses and the opportunity to really influence your degree. In addition to the minor subject, my degree also includes completely elective courses, which has made it possible for me to choose two minor subjects. It feels like everyone at Aalto has a study path that looks just like them.

The best thing is the freedom, versatility and doing things together in student life. In addition, the Surveyors' Guild is very active and warm-hearted. The guild organises a variety of activities every week, from hiking to the wildest parties. Through the events, it has been easy to get to know new people and I found a wonderful group of friends already during the orientation week. One of the best things about student life is definitely the opportunity to study, spend time and do those everyday things together with a group of friends.
The future of the real estate economy is bright, even though the construction industry is currently facing challenges. The sector attracts about half of all investments, and the sector's diversity and long-term opportunities are significant. The real estate market offers stable and attractive investment targets. At the same time, sustainable development, energy efficiency and technological development open up new opportunities. The growth and urbanisation of cities require smart solutions in which geoinformatics plays a key role. I see the future of the industry as very positive and full of potential.
