New members to academic committees

The Aalto University Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) and Aalto Schools’ Academic Committees have started their new term for years 2018-2020.

The AAC will have its first meeting on 6 February. In the agenda are e.g. nomination committee of the Aalto Board and regulations concerning  doctoral education. Information on the meetings of AAC and the schools’ committees can be found on Inside.

The Chair of AAC is Provost Kristiina Mäkelä and the Vice Chair is Vice President Eero Eloranta. The secretary is Senior Legal Counsel Jari Söderström.

Elections for the AAC and the Schools’ committees in the group “other staff” were organized in October-November 2017. Professor members were elected at the Professors’ Council meeting on 7 December.

Student members of the committees will be appointed by the Student Union.

Committees decide on academic matters

The academic committees are important decision-making bodies at the university. The AAC is a joint, university-level administrative body with 19 members. The Committee appoints members of the university board and it decides on the university’s curriculum, degree requirements, criteria for student selection and other general rules. It also appoints the required bodies to conduct research and teaching.

Each Aalto school has an Academic Committee. The previous Aalto Academic Affairs Committee delegated decisions on matters including decisions on selection criteria, degree requirements, and curricula for the different fields to the Academic Committees of the schools. The new AAC will decide on this in the first meeting.
