Lauri Ström appointed Head of Investments
Lauri Ström MSSc (Econ), is appointed Head of Investments at Aalto University. In his role, he is responsible for the management of the university’s investment portfolio, including the planning of the investment strategy, and management of the internal investment team. His duties also include risk management and internal control practices, reporting to the Aalto University Board on the portfolio performance, and working closely with the external advisory Investment Committee of the university.
Lauri Ström's earlier experience include portfolio management at Aalto University where his main responsibilities have covered long-only external manager selection as well as asset allocation and investment strategy. Previously Ström has been a portfolio manager of various alternative investment strategies at OP Asset Management and Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company .
Lauri Ström started in his new role on October 1 2025 and he will report to Marianna Bom, Chief Financial Officer.
The main purpose of Aalto University’s endowment is to generate annual funding to enable the university to fulfil its strategic goals and support high-quality education, research and innovation. The endowment provides the university with increased financial independence and enhances its funding stability. The capital of the endowment derives from donations and Finnish government capitalisations. In June 2024, the market value of the endowment was approx. EUR 1500 million.
