EXHIBITION

The Digital Fabrication Showcase 2021 exhibition will display the work that has been produced in and with Aalto Fablab during the past years. It is going to take place in the main lobby of Väre, which is the new home for all the departments of the School of Arts, Design, and Architecture. The exhibition will last from 15 to 28 November 2021.

A lot has been going on at the Aalto Fablab during the past years. Students have been using the space to complete their coursework and thesis projects. Researchers tapped into the possibilities of rapid prototyping to fine-tune their experimental practice. COVID-19 posed new challenges, and collaborations between different stakeholders have been taking place to tackle them. Aalto Fablab has been a ground for practical use of digital fabrication technology. It is time to showcase the outcomes of the different creative processes that have been taking place there.

A fraction of the works in the exhibition are Fab Academy final projects or have been created using skills obtained during the course. An academic overlay for the Fab Academy has been established, giving Aalto University students an option to pursue the global digital fabrication course as part of their studies. You can find more information about Fab Academy on its official website (https://fabacademy.org).

You can join the Fab Academy academic overlay by entering the following courses.

  • Digital Fabrication I (DOM-E5155)
  • Digital Fabrication II (DOM-E5156)
  • Digital Fabrication III (DOM-E5157)
  • Digital Fabrication Studio (DOM-E5158)

CELEBRATION

The celebration is a chance to meet many people who have participated in the 10-year long journey of Aalto Fablab. It will take place on 18 November between 14:00 and 18:00 in the main lobby of the Aalto Studios building in Otakaari 7. Please let us know that you are coming using the registration form.

We are inviting a list of guest speakers who will share their experiences and insights related to their connection to Aalto Fablab. How it was, and what it has become? What are the learnings and what will the future of it look like? You are invited to witness the spirit of the Aalto Fablab community and contribute to its force.

BOOTCAMP

As the first fab lab in Finland, Aalto Fablab is honored to host the first Finnish fab lab network boot camp, the Fablab Suomi Bootcamp 2021. Friday 19 and Saturday 20 November will be filled with activities where the Finnish fab lab network participants will have the opportunity to meet each other. They will explore the Aalto University campus and share knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm.

Until now, monthly online meetings were happening where every lab would share their latest news. The sessions have been an essential platform for synchronization and knowledge sharing between the Finnish fab labs. The Fablab Suomi Bootcamp 2021 will push the sharing aspect to the next level and boost future activities.
