Students at Aalto University can apply to University of Helsinki’s Nightingale mentoring programme that brings together higher education students and children who are between the ages of 9 and 12 and who live in Helsinki. Each mentor and child meet once a week for fun and mutually beneficial activities. The programme is organised as a course with 5 ECTS credits and students will also receive monetary compensation.

The language of the mentoring programme is Swedish.

The University of Helsinki is in charge of the implementation of the programme, training and guidance for the participants and inclusion of schools and parents.

To enter the programme, students must apply within the application period as instructed by the mentoring programme. Aalto University will open cross-institutional study functionalities in Sisu for the accepted students which allows students to add the mentoring programme to their study plan and enrol to the course. Students who complete the programme will get the performance information automatically transferred to their completed studies in Sisu. Interested students must discuss with the learning services of their own programme before applying to the mentoring programme.

The next mentoring programme will start in autumn 2026 and the application period for the academic year 2026–2027 is open 24.8. –17.9.2026.
