Aalto University received 7513 applications for its master's programmes during the application period that ended on January 2, 2026. A total of 5084 applicants applied to Aalto. The majority of applications, 4213, were submitted to programmes in the field of technology and engineering. The programmes in the field of arts and design received 2163 applications, and the programmes in the field of business and economics received 1137 applications.

Half of the applicants have other than Finnish citizenship. Altogether, the applicants represent 106 different nationalities. The number of applications from citizens of Finland and other EU/EEA countries increased, but the number of applications from outside these countries decreased compared to the previous master's programme application period.

The application period that ended in early January was for Aalto University's two-year master's programmes, with studies commencing in the fall of 2026. The figures above do not include students from Aalto University's own bachelor's programmes who move directly to the master's level. For the first time, an application fee of 100 euro was implemented in the master's application process, applicable to non-citizens of EU, EEA countries, or Switzerland. The results of the application process will be published on April 8, 2026.

The application periods for international joint degree programmes differ from Aalto’s other master's programmes. The specific application periods are listed on each programme's website.

The application period for bachelor's programmes taught in English is January 7–22, 2026. The application period for bachelor's programmes taught in Finnish and Swedish is March 10–24, 2026.
