Fira Oy has been chosen as the main contractor for the project. Construction work will start during February with site fencing and internal demolition work. Strength of Materials Laboratory will remain in the use of the university for the spring. In the coming months, HSY's water supply works will also be carried out in the area of Aalto University Works, ie the former Konemiehenkortteli, due to which streets have been closed in the vicinity of the construction site (read more https://www.aalto.fi/en/news/part-of-the-konemiehentie-will-be-closed-traffic-arrangements-are-changing).

Aalto University Works K3 project includes the renovation of Puumiehenkuja 5 and, at a later stage, the dismantling of one wing and the construction of a new building. The construction phase as a whole will take about two years, but the facilities will be completed in stages for users as early as the beginning of 2022. Future users include School of Engineering (ENG), School of Electrical Engineering (ELEC), Design Factory, Startup Sauna and Aalto Ventures Program. In accordance with the development plan for the Aalto Works area, K1 (Otakaari 4) and K2 (Puumiehenkuja 3) were renovated earlier.

Aalto University Works project is part of a larger campus development plan, in which the university's activities are concentrated towards the core campus. Aalto University Works as a name builds on the history of the block as place for building, iterating, and testing. At the same time it updates the concept towards today's activities of collaborating and co-working. Aalto Works takes the opportunities offered by collaboration and coworking spaces to a new level. The block encourages interaction between learning, research, and society by bringing together new ideas, top-performing researchers and students who share their expertise.
