1,527 new Bachelor’s level students began studies at Aalto

A total of 9,858 persons applied for admission to Aalto University in the joint application process this spring. 16% of applications were successful.

A total of 1,657 new students were granted admission to Aalto University during the spring's joint application process and the separate application process. 1,527 students accepted the place of the study they were offered. Of the new students, 288 will begin their studies at the School of Engineering, 389 at either the Helsinki or Mikkeli unit of the School of Business, 114 at the School of Chemical Technology, 260 at the School of Science, 238 at the School of Electrical Engineering, and 168 at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

Additionally, a total of 3,569 applicants sought admission to Aalto's Master's programmes in an application process that came to an end at the end of January. 1,017 of the applicants were granted admission.

Information technology the most popular technological field of specialisation

A total of 3,496 persons applied for to study in Aalto's schools that provide studies in technology and architecture. Compared to 2014, the number of applicants fell by 4.2%. In the fields of technology and engineering, 25.4% of the new students are women.

The points totals required in the entrance exams for technology-oriented degrees rose this year. The highest points were required for Architecture, Industrial Engineering and Management, Applied Physics and Mathematics, as well as Information Technology. The largest number of applicants applied for Information Technology, which 382 applicants had selected as their first choice in the DIA application procedure. 

Earlier this spring, 546 applicants were admitted in the Master’s level admissions to Master’s programmes in the field of science and technology. The total number of applicants was 1887. 

Application to the School of Business remains very competitive

A total of 3,773 candidates applied to the Helsinki unit of the Aalto University School of Business. 8.9% of the applicants were successful.  The number of applicants was nearly the same as last year. For the third time running the school also offered study places for the winners of the national Talousguru ("Economics Guru") competition. As in the past, all three of the successful entrants seized the opportunity and will start their studies this year.

A total of 82 new students were admitted to the Bachelor's Degree Programme in International Business (BBA) taught at the university's Mikkeli campus. The language of instruction for the degree programme is English. The Mikkeli unit received 858 applications from 72 countries, and 9.6% of these applicants were granted a place of study.

The Mikkeli unit has its own application process. The students selected for the programme in 2015 will also receive an automatic right of study to the Master of Science in Economy degree programme at the School of Business' Helsinki unit, where they can continue their studies after graduating from Mikkeli's Bachelor's degree programme.

In the Master’s level admissions earlier this spring, 261 applicants were admitted to the School of Business' Master degree programmes. The total number of applicants was 548.

Admission was granted to 7.2 % of applicants to degree programmes in the field of art and design

In this year’s joint application process, 2,056 applicants were interested in the degree programmes in the field of art and design offered by Aalto University's School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Of them, 1,549 also handed in the pre-admission assignment.  Of the applicants, 112, or 7.2%, were admitted to study for a Bachelor of Arts degree. 69.6% of all successful applications in the field of art and design were submitted by female applicants.  The major subjects of Art Education, Graphic Design and Fashion received the most applications. The number of applicants remained nearly the same as it was last year.

Earlier this spring, 210 applicants were admitted in the Master’s level admissions to the School of Arts, Design and Architecture. The total number of applicants was 1134.

New guideline: Aalto University Code of Academic Integrity in Studies

A new guideline, the Aalto University Code of Academic Integrity in Studies will enter into force on 1 January 2025. The code, approved by the University Academic Affairs Committee in September 2024, will replace the previous similar guideline approved in 2011, the Aalto University Code of Academic Integrity and Handling Violations thereof.

Bachelor's theses in technology will be possible to publish at Aaltodoc from the beginning of year 2025

From the beginning of year 2025, the publication of all bachelor's theses in the field of technology in the Aalto university’s Aaltodoc publication archive will become possible. This change now also offers technology students the same opportunity to publish their thesis as ARTS and BIZ students already have.
