How: Registration to Thesis Fair has ended.
For many international students, Master's thesis is the gateway to Finnish working life. International students who do their thesis in cooperation with a company or research organization are more likely to stay working in Finland after graduation. It is in the interest of both Aalto University and companies that our international students utilize the education and research knowledge acquired at Aalto for the benefit of Finnish working life.
Thesis Fair brings together international Master's students as well as companies and organizations that value the research information produced by international students, and can offer thesis positions in English. At the event, companies get to meet Master's students from different fields and hear their ideas for thesis topics. For international students, Thesis Fair gives an opportunity to present their potential research topics and to network with representatives of companies in various fields.
Through university students, companies get access to the latest knowledge and expertise in the field. By conducting a thesis project, companies can also test potential new employees. Master's thesis project is one of the most effective means of recruiting graduating students. Thesis Fair is an excellent opportunity for companies to create a positive employer image and become profiled among students as an organization that promotes diversity.
The Thesis Fair is aimed at all companies and organizations that are interested in utilizing the skills and research knowledge of an international student. At Aalto University, there are international students studying in all Master's programmes, and most students are interested in doing their thesis in cooperation with a Finnish company. In these cases, the language of the thesis is usually English.
Master's level theses are conducted in the fields of technology, business, and art and design. In a Master's thesis, the student utilizes the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies in order to solve a specific problem. Various design, development or research projects related to the organization's industry are suitable topics for thesis projects.
A company participating in the Thesis Fair may already have a topic or theme in mind for a possible thesis project, but it is also possible to come to the event without a preliminary topic. Professors and academic supervisors from different fields will also be present at the event, from whom companies can get information about the practices related to the assignment of a thesis, such as supervision, salary, and copyright issues.
Thesis Fair is a side event of the Aalto Talent Expo recruitment event, which is held the same week on November 2, 2023. In Aalto Talent Expo, companies can meet all Aalto students for recruitment purposes. The Thesis Fair, on the other hand, is specifically aimed at finding students for thesis projects, and the event's target group is international Master's students.
Thesis Fair is a free event for companies. Companies that participate in both Thesis Fair and Aalto Talent Expo are entitled to a 5 % discount on the price of their chosen Aalto Talent Expo stand (excluding already discounted prices, e.g. partnership packages). The discount will be checked during the invoicing phase of Talent Expo.
We are looking for participants who can discuss the company's possible thesis topics with the students. In addition, there may be participants from HR or recruitment, for example. One company can have more than one participant in the event.
The Thesis Fair is aimed at international degree students studying in one of Aalto University's Master's programmes (including international double degree programs). The event is open for students of all Aalto schools, and the event also aims to involve companies from a wide range of industries to cater the needs of different study fields.
It is recommended that students participating in the event will be at such a stage in their master's studies that writing a thesis is relevant during the current academic year. The topic of the thesis does not have to be decided yet, but the further the ideation of the topic is, the easier it is for the student to have thesis discussions with company representatives.
A pitching training is offered for the participating students in the autumn before the event, to prepare the students to meet company representatives and to talk about their skills and preliminary thesis ideas.
