Glimmering waves, twisted pines, autumn storms, and the sound of water against rocks — aesthetic moments familiar to some and entirely new to others. This project began by combining the perspectives of two Finns, who have lived close to the Baltic Sea all their lives, and a South Korean who has known the ocean from the other side of the world and is now discovering the Baltic’s unique character.

To connect these viewpoints, we drew inspiration from Dojang—traditional Korean name stamps that serve as personal symbols of identity. Reflecting on our own experiences of the Baltic Sea, we created motifs that represent personal memories and impressions. To make the project more interactive, we asked others to sketch their Baltic Sea memories, later turning them into a visually united collection of stamps.

In Finnish, matkamuisto means “travel memory.” Each stamp acts as a small, personal souvenir—an imprint of time, place, and experience—preserving and sharing the collective essence and character of the Baltic Sea.
