Biofilia – Base for Biological Arts, is a biological art unit launched under Aalto ARTS in 2012. It offers a platform for trans-disciplinary research and education that aims to create cultural discussions and innovations around topics related to the manipulation of life and biological processes at a practical and theoretical level, including philosophical and ethical dimensions.

The Biofilia laboratory space situates as an annex of a larger laboratory facility that belongs to Aalto University Junior which aims to support and advance studies of mathematics, natural sciences and technology for students in upper secondary education. STEAM is the key position. Biofilia and Junior share an auditorium space for 40 persons.

Biofilia as a new research and learning environment will bring together artists, scientists, scholars and students from Aalto University and beyond. It is a joint project between the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, the School of Chemical Engineering and the city of Espoo.

The biological science laboratory is located on Otaniemi Campus, at the School of Chemical Engineering  (Kemistintie 1).   Please contact the Biofilia lab manager for more information about possible projects and studies.
