Proof of English proficiency

Applicants to programmes taught in English must demonstrate their proficiency in English with an accepted proof of language proficiency.

The majority of Aalto University’s master’s programmes are taught in English. Check the language of instruction for your study option on the study option's web page. If a study option has several languages of instruction, demonstrating language proficiency in one of the languages is sufficient.

See the accepted methods of proving your language proficiency in English below. No other methods of demonstrating English language skills than those listed below are accepted. Applications without the required proof of language proficiency will be rejected.

Proof of Finnish or Swedish proficiency

Applicants are required to be proficient in the language of instruction of the study option. As the majority of Aalto University’s master’s programmes are taught in English, applicants to English-taught programmes do not need to demonstrate Finnish or Swedish skills.

Check the language of instruction for your study option on the study option's web page. If a study option has several languages of instruction, demonstrating language proficiency in one of the languages is sufficient.
