Aalto University Information Technology Program (ITP) brings students together from diverse backgrounds and all around the world to solve digital business problems. ITP enables students to combine business, design and technological perspectives, making it an ever-changing and valuable education module. ITP prepares students for a future of data-driven and evidence-based decision making in the digital economy.
An intensive learning experience for professionals and graduate students in the field of transportation and urban planning: lectures, workshops and site visits.

Aalto University Open University
Open University courses are open to everyone regardless of their background or age. Open University offers individual courses in Business, Technology, Languages and Art and Design. Students are admitted to individual courses in the order of registration.
Aalto Summer students must organize their own accommodation. We have collected some suggestions below, also for short term accommodation needs.
Please bear in mind that accommodation options are on short supply during the summer months, so book as early as you can and make sure you have somewhere to stay before you arrive.
Many of the Aalto Summer courses organize social programme and excursions to local places of interest for their students. Please check the course website for more information.
Aalto Summer courses are held on the Otaniemi campus, Espoo, unless otherwise indicated. Otaniemi is located about 10 kilometers from central Helsinki and easily accessible by metro or bus. Aalto University metro station is located in the heart of the campus. Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) https://www.hsl.fi/en has information on tickets, timetables and a journey planner.

Students from outside Aalto University are welcome to apply for Aalto Summer courses. The course prices can be found on the course website. Aalto students study free of charge.

Every effort has been made to ensure that the information on Aalto Summer website is accurate and up to date. However, the University cannot guarantee the delivery of courses and services without modification, discontinuation or replacement in all circumstances, and therefore reserves the right to make changes without prior notification.
Students are personally responsible for obtaining necessary travel documents such as visa (non-EU nationalities). Aalto University can provide a letter of invitation for visa for admitted students. Students are obliged to have a travel insurance covering the whole period while they are travelling and studying in Aalto Summer. Aalto University does not have an insurance covering damages caused by student. Students are responsible for organizing their own accommodation but Aalto provides information on suitable services and alternatives.

Boasting the largest technology hub of the Nordic countries, Finland is a world leader in information technology, business, design and many other academically centred fields.

You will get a diploma and/or a transcript of records at the end of the course, or in case that is not possible, a hard copy will be mailed to you after the course.
Once you have been accepted to a course and you have paid the course fee (if the course is fee based), the course coordinator will send you an invitation along with the letter of acceptance.
Unfortunately we don’t have a common scholarship scheme for the Aalto Summer. Some courses however do provide for scholarships and/or offer reduced price for prioritized groups. Please check the course website for further information. Please remember that if you are a student at one of our Partner Universities, your own university may be able to offer you a travel grant. If this applies to you, please contact your international office.
Aalto Summer courses are held on Aalto University Otaniemi campus in Espoo, unless otherwise indicated in the course information. The campus is connected to Helsinki by metro (10 min) and to the airport by metro+train or bus (45-60 min). There is some accommodation available in Otaniemi, but more variety and availability nearby, in other parts of Espoo and in Helsinki.
Many of the courses have about 20-30 participants (please see the course website for more detailed information) and there will most probably be participants from Finland, other European countries and e.g. Australia, USA, China and India. We welcome participants from all over the world!
Yes. Please be sure to purchase travel insurance from your permanent place of residence, before you travel. If you are an EU/EEA citizen or resident, you may take advantage of the European Health Insurance Card, which you need to get before you travel. Please be aware of its limitations, e.g. that it does not cover private healthcare costs.
You will get more out of the courses, if you have your own laptop but there are PC labs available for you to use. Otaniemi offers great wifi service free of charge!
Otaniemi offers you great wifi service free of charge, and almost all forms of accommodation have free wifi, whether it is an Airbnb, Forenom or a hotel.
The language of instruction in all of the fee-based courses is English. If you are not proficient in English, you may not get a passing grade. You need to understand spoken and written English, and you need to be able to express your thoughts in English in order to truly participate in the course.
Our campus is very international and you will also find that many local people speak English, so you have no problem in getting around by just using English on campus and outside the campus. The variety of accents may be diverse, though! It is always nice to be able to say something in the local language, so we encourage you to learn some Finnish. And don’t forget – if you are a Swedish speaker, Swedish is the other official language of Finland.
