How to Apply?
To Submit an Application
To submit your application, you need to complete an online application form and attach a copy of your passport or another official photo ID, along with a degree certificate from your upper secondary education. If your degree certificate is not in English, an official translation must be provided.
If you are currently pursuing your degree, you are required to attach an official letter of attendance, a transcript, or another relevant document that demonstrates your enrollment and states your expected graduation date. Your degree should be completed by the summer of 2025 at the latest. If any of your provided documents are in a language other than English, Finnish, or Swedish, an official translation must be included.
Upon submitting your application, you will need to complete a Basic Skills Test, which consists of a brief mathematics assessment.
Our Pathway Team will review your documents to ensure your eligibility for higher education by the summer of 2025. If you meet the eligibility criteria and have completed the Basic Skills Test, you will receive an invitation to the online mathematics entrance exam. The top-ranking candidates will be invited to an oral mathematics exam and interview.
Aalto University reserves the right to cancel the University Pathway Finland programme in case of an insufficient number of students. In that case, applicants will be notified without delay. If Aalto University cancels the programme, it fully refunds the paid fees (100%), excluding possible bank-specific payment charges.
Instructions for the Application
Please note that these instructions are applicable solely to the 2024 admissions.
Fill out an online application on Studyinfo.fi during the application period 5.–24.6.2024.
You need to attach application documents to your application form. The required documents are:
- Copy of a valid passport or other government-issued identification card with photo
- Copy of your upper secondary degree certificate, if you have already completed your upper secondary education
- Motivation letter including a brief description of yourself and your motivation for applying for the University Pathway Finland programme
- If you are currently pursuing your upper secondary degree, an official letter of attendance, a transcript, or another relevant document that demonstrates your enrollment and states your expected graduation date is required
- If any of your documents are in a language other than English, Finnish or Swedish, an official translation is required
If an obligatory application document is missing after the document deadline, the application will be rejected as incomplete.
You can also submit other study-related documents to your application form. For example, if you already have a language test result or a certificate demonstrating your official English language proficiency, you can submit the document to your application form. Please note that demonstrating English language proficiency is not mandatory at this application stage.
You may apply to a maximum of three routes, which you must list in order of priority on your application form. You can change the routes or their order of priority only during the application period. You cannot change the order of priority once the application period has ended.
Priority order means that if you are admitted to your first priority option, your next options will be automatically cancelled.
You cannot save the application form as a draft. However, you can edit your application form during the application period.
Link to the application form will be added to our website when the application period starts.
Basic Skills Test consists of a brief mathematics assessment. The test is completed on Aalto OpenLearning platform. Once the Basic Skills Test is completed, officials will assess your eligibility for the Pathway studies.
Please note that you need to create a new account on Aalto OpenLearning platform before taking the Basic Skills Test. You can find the "Create new account" button on the main page of OpenLearning.
Written entrance exams will take place on 8.–10.7.2024. Applicants will be invited to the written exam based on their Basic Skills test score. The entrance exam is organised electronically in OpenLearning platform. To login, please use the account you created for Basic Skills test. Note that you can only take the electronic exam once. Before taking the actual exam, we expect you to complete practice exam in the OpenLearning platform.
Entrance exam tests the mathematics skills you need to be able to study the mathematics courses in the Pathway programme. It also serves as a self-evaluation tool for you to assess whether you have the skills to succeed in the programme.
Make sure that you have a method to turn your solutions into a pdf file, since some of the questions require that. For example, you can use a software suitable for writing mathematical formulas and text. Alternatively, you can just take a picture of your "paper and pen" solution and turn it into a pdf file. There are multiple apps for that (e.g. Tiny Scanner). The maximum size of the submitted files is 250MB.
Components
- Practice exam (2 hours 30 minutes: can be completed at any time before your entrance exam)
- Electronic exam (2 hours 30 minutes): See your entrance exam invitation letter for written exam group and time
