Admission to Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology, Bachelor and Master of Science in Technology (3 yrs + 2 yrs)

The application period for Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology is organised 3 - 17 January 2024. Applicants are selected to complete the degrees Bachelor and Master of Science in Technology. Admission is based on either the SAT or the ACT test results or grades obtained in Finnish Matriculation Examination, IB, EB or DIA/RP diploma.

Who can apply?

All applicants must fulfill the general eligibility requirements for higher education and provide the required documents by the given deadlines (see the section Required application documents). You are eligible to apply if you have completed or will complete during spring 2024 one of the following qualifications:

  • Finnish matriculation examination
  • International Baccalaureate diploma (IB), completed in an accredited IB school

  • European Baccalaureate examination (EB), completed in an accredited EB school

  • Deutsches Internationales Abitur diploma (DIA) or Reifeprüfung diploma (RP) in Finland

  • Upper secondary education completed outside Finland, e.g. a high school diploma. The qualification must give eligibility to the corresponding level of higher education in the country in which it was awarded.
  • A Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification, further vocational qualification or specialist vocational qualification as set in the Vocational Education Act (531/2017)
  • Advanced International Certificate of Education diploma (AICE)

Additionally eligible to apply are

  • applicants who have been granted the right to study in a university in Finland  
  • applicants who have a higher education degree completed in Finland (or an equivalent, at minimum a bachelor level degree completed abroad) 

Please note that any high school diploma awarded abroad does not qualify for International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) and any European high school diploma does not qualify for European Baccalaureate Diploma (EB). Both International Baccalaureate and European Baccalaureate are special programmes and only students that have studied at a school that participates in the International Baccalaureate or the European Baccalaureate programmes can be awarded an IB or EB Diploma (see the links above). 

Admission to the Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology is based either on the grades obtained in the Finnish Matriculation Examination, IB, EB or DIA/RP diploma or on the SAT or the ACT test results. 

  • In Admission Group I admission is based on the grades obtained in the Finnish matriculation examination, IB, EB or DIA/RP diplomas. If you have completed any other qualification, you can only apply on the basis of the SAT or ACT test results.
  • In Admission Group II admission is based on the SAT or the ACT test results. You must, however, also meet the general eligiblity requirements for higher education (see list above).

Currently there is one bachelor's degree programme available in English in the field of Science and Technology at Aalto University. There are five study options available in the Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology in 2024.

How to apply?

Admissions to the Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology are organised through the national spring joint application to higher education. The application period is 3 - 17 Jan 2024. You can submit an application only during the application period at the Studyinfo service.

In the joint application to higher education, you can apply to a maximum of six (6) study options with one application form. You do not have to place the study options in order of preference, and you may be offered more than one study place. 

Please note that you can only accept one study place leading to a higher education degree in Finland in education that begins in the same academic term (one study place per term provision). This rule applies to all higher education.

Admission process

Admission to the Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology is based either on the grades obtained in the Finnish Matriculation Examination, IB, EB or DIA/RP diploma or on the SAT or the ACT test results. 

  • In Admission Group I admission is based on the grades obtained in the Finnish matriculation examination, IB, EB or DIA/RP diplomas. If you have completed any other qualification, you can only apply on the basis of the SAT or ACT test results.
  • In Admission Group II admission is based on the SAT or the ACT test results. You must, however, also meet the general eligibility requirements for higher education (see the section Who can apply).

If you meet the minimum requirements for both admission groups you can be considered in both Admission Group I and Admission Group II. You are not required to choose which admission group you are applying in, since all applicants are automatically considered in both admission groups.

Required application documents

Attach to the application form the following documents:

  1. Documents proving eligibility for higher education (with translations, if required)
  2. If applying on the basis of the SAT or ACT test results: the SAT or ACT test result report (in addition, the official test results must arrive directly to Aalto University from the test organiser)
  3. Passport or other ID (with translations, if required)
  4. Residence permit card (if applicable)

This section has instructions and deadlines for these documents. Read the instructions carefully and attach the documents on the Studyinfo application form by the given deadlines. Scan the original documents in colour and save them as PDF files. The copies do not have to be certified.

Your application will be rejected if you do not provide the required documents by the given deadlines. If we require further information about your application or documents provided, we will be in contact via email after the application period has ended. Your application will be rejected if you do not reply to our email by the given due date.

Please note if you apply in several admissions: you must attach the required documents to your application form separately for each application. Attachments submitted for one application round are not taken into account in other application rounds.

For example, attachments submitted in the first joint application in spring will not be taken into account in the second joint application in spring, and attachments submitted in the second joint application in spring will not be taken into account in the first joint application in spring. In the second joint application period it is possible to apply only to bachelor's programmes in Finnish and Swedish.

After you have submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email. You can modify your application and upload documents to your application in the My Studyinfo service. If you cannot log in to the My Studyinfo service, you can modify your application and upload documents to your application via the link included in the confirmation email. You can make changes to the application form only during the application period. After the application period has ended, you can upload and modify your application documents until the document-specific deadlines. Language requirements

The language of instruction in the Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology is English, so all students are expected to have sufficient language skills to be able to study in English. You are not required to submit a separate language test result.

Tuition fees and scholarships

There is a tuition fee for students who are not citizens of the member states of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland. Tuition fees are charged in programmes taught in English.

Admission results

The admission results for Admission Group II (SAT and ACT-based selection) are published in the Studyinfo service by 30 April 2024

The admission results for Admission Group I (certificate-based selection) are published in the Studyinfo service by 31 May 2024

You can check your results by logging in to the My Studyinfo service. An electronic results letter is also sent to all applicants via email. 

Accepting your study place offer

If you have been admitted to a study programme, you will receive a notification of this to your email. You must accept the offer of admission by the given deadline, or you will lose your offer. You can accept only one offer of admission per academic term. Accepting an offer of admission is a binding choice, and you cannot cancel or change your choice later. When you accept an offer of admission, all your other admission offers will be cancelled automatically.
