Thesis and working-life skills
Key working-life skills for thesis writing, and how to get support for them at Aalto University.
The Thesis Room, located in the Learning Centre, is a workspace for students working on their theses.
In it, you can work independently on your thesis and meet other students working on theirs. While working in the Thesis Room, you can make use of the shared work rhythm of the space, with joint work sessions and peer breaks that help you structure your day and focus on your thesis. If you struggle to make progress with your thesis at home, or feel like you need company, you can come to the Thesis Room and work alongside others, even though everyone is working on their own theses.
The Thesis Room is equipped with materials that provide useful tips, information on current affairs and practical advice to support the thesis process. They can be helpful for planning your work, organising your schedule and getting back to work if you feel stuck.
The Thesis Room also serves as a venue for presentations and workshops on thesis writing. The topics vary from time management, writing, managing the work process, or getting back to work if you are struggling with your thesis. Further details on the specific themes and timetables will be announced later.
Please note that Thesis Room does not offer one-on-one thesis supervision. If you need support with the content, scope or assessment of your thesis, please contact your thesis advisor. If you need support with the thesis process in general, see the page Thesis and working-life skills for a wealth of information and tips. You can also come and meet counsellors at Starting Point of Wellbeing.
You can use the Thesis Room whenever it suits you. Located in the Learning Centre, K015b, the room is open daily from 7 am to midnight. The Thesis Room will be available for students from 1 November 2026 onwards.
Welcome to the Thesis Room to work on your thesis alongside others – independently, but not alone.
