Proactive health care and sustaining work ability
Pre-employment medical examinations
Statutory health exam (for work duties with exposures)
When an employee is in contact with exposure(s) at work, such as noise, dust, chemicals, radiation, a statutory health exam (preliminary exam) is performed in occupational health care. The statutory health exam is done before employment begins or ideal no later than 1 month after employment begins.
The medical examination includes:
- basic laboratory tests (e.g. blood sugar, fat and liver values)
- responding to online health and exposure questionnaires
- employee visits school’s occupational health physician who writes the compatibility statement. The occupational health physician also determines whether periodic health checks are needed.
- referral to school’s occupational health nurse, to a physiotherapist and/or psychologist, if necessary.
Terveystalo's customer service contacts the employee by phone and makes the necessary appointments with the employee.
More information on the statutory health exam you get:
- your unit’s HR
- Exposure to occupational hazards | Aalto University.
Pre-employment medical examination for other duties (without exposures)
For those working in other duties pre-employment medical examination is recommended within 3 months of the start of an employment relationship, when the contractual employment relationship is permanent or for at least one year.
The medical examination includes:
- basic laboratory tests (e.g. blood sugar, fat and liver values)
- responding to online health questionnaire
- employee visits school's occupational health nurse (at health clinic or remote visit or by phone)
- referral to school’s occupational health physician, to a physiotherapist and/or psychologist, if necessary.
Terveystalo's customer service contacts the employee by phone and makes the necessary appointments with the employee.
Since the pre-employment medical exam is not mandatory, occupational health care does not submit a compatibility statement on it to the employer.
More information on the pre-employment medical exam you get from your unit's HR.
