Digital Systems and Design educates specialists in various fields of digital systems. This major gives you competence in engineering design, as well as project planning and management, employing tools from embedded systems, control theory, and signal processing.

Master's degree programmes at the School of Electrical Engineering
The School of Electrical Engineering offers teaching in the following master's degree programmes. All our master's degree programmes are international and taught in English. Application period is on 2 December 2022–2 January 2023.
We are currently moving toward an energy system that is sustainable, smart and flexible. The energy transition requires new ways of thinking about energy, including its sources, production, markets, transmission and use. The Master's Programme in Advanced Energy Solutions is an excellent place for you to start reshaping our energy system.
Energy Systems and Markets -major offers basic understanding of energy systems, the main challenges our energy solutions are facing today and possible ways towards a sustainable future.
The Master’s Programme in Automation and Electrical Engineering prepares its graduates to perform in the intersection between hardware and software, ranging from the fields of Electrical Engineering and Energy sectors to Biomedical Engineering, Control Engineering and Robotics. Drawing from extensive research and fundamental theories in mathematical and natural sciences, the programme focuses on the applicable side of technologies, including topics like Autonomous Systems, Health Technology, Smart Grids and Renewable Energy Solutions.
Acoustics and Audio Technology - Computer, Communication and Information Sciences, Master of Science (Technology)
The major in Acoustics and Audio Technology equips students with a fundamental understanding of human hearing, audio perception, and physics of sound. The skills they acquire enable, for example, reducing noise pollution, planning harmonic environments and designing coherent sound experiences.
Communications Engineering - Computer, Communication and Information Sciences, Master of Science (Technology)
Our world is digitally revolutionised, highlighting the increasing importance of internet technologies, wireless communication and communications ecosystems. The Master’s Programme in Computer, Communication and Information Sciences – Communications Engineering covers both theoretical fundamentals and the hottest hands-on applications of communications technology, including topics like 5G, IoT, machine learning, and cybersecurity. The study option consists of a hard technological core surrounded by human-centred behavioural economics and sciences.
The Master’s Programme in Electronics and Nanotechnology offers the opportunity for students to go into the details of future-shaping and globally significant technologies. We are surrounded by wireless technologies everywhere through the rise of mobile devices, space technology is skyrocketing in the form of small satellites, and nanotechnology is enabling major breakthroughs in fields like solar energy harvesting. This programme focuses strongly on researching and building hardware for these technologies, paving the way for a fluent shift towards a career in the industry or an academic postgraduate path.
Signal Processing and Data Science - Computer, Communication and Information Sciences, Master of Science (Technology)
In the Signal Processing and Data Science major, you will learn to extract useful information, discover patterns, and make predictions from large amounts of signal or data. You get to apply your knowledge to the physical world – making devices, systems and entities smarter and more environmentally friendly.
Speech and Language Technology - Computer, Communication and Information Sciences, Master of Science (Technology)
Aalto University’s Speech and Language Technology major benefits from leading research in machine learning and speech technology, with researchers actively involved in teaching. Graduates of the programme are well-equipped to launch their careers in the fast-growing field.
The Master's Programme in Life Science Technologies educates a new generation of engineers, researchers and entrepreneurs who are committed to improve human health and wellbeing through development of innovative scientific and engineering solutions.
IDBM is a pioneering and renowned study programme that truly embodies the vision of Aalto by integrating design and technology with global business development. Through transdisciplinary teamwork and real-life business challenges provided by our prominent industry partners, the programme prepares students as the next generation of creative professionals. IDBM is uniquely positioned as the only programme offered in all six schools of Aalto, allowing programme graduates to earn a Master’s degree in either business, design or technology.

From self-driving cars to robotic assistants, the Internet of Things, and AI-based software solutions – the future is autonomous. However, as an emerging technology, autonomous systems hold both opportunities and risks. The key to navigating this potential minefield is to not only understand the technology itself but, more importantly, be able to confidently evaluate autonomous processes and maximise the trade-off between business impact and resources spent.
Cloud and Network Infrastructures - ICT Innovation (EIT Digital Master School), Master of Science (Technology)
When our networks became overwhelmed with connected devices and streaming services, cloud computing saved the day. Now, the so-called ‘cloudification’ of networks is set to unleash a new era of smart connectivity – enabling everything from Industry 4.0 applications to autonomous vehicles, augmented reality, and urban infrastructure.
SpaceMaster IV is a continuation of the original Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree programmes launched in 2004 and implemented by a consortium of leading European universities in close collaboration with research and industrial organizations.
SSIs is a two-year joint master programme, with full student mobility between Aalto University, University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) and Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) with leading expertise in the academic fields of Smart Systems and Microsystems Technology.

Master’s programme in Urban Mobility, study track Innovative Mobility Technology (IMT) is a master programme that prepares graduates to design and develop user-centred future mobility tools and devices, and to assess their feasibility and sustainability at both the user and system level.
The Communications and Data Science Double Degree Programme covers a range of timely, industry topics relevant to modern fields of engineering. Communications and Data Science is a two-year master's programme, with student mobility between Aalto University, Grenoble INP Graduate schools of Engineering and Management at Université Grenoble Alpes, or Técnico Lisboa at Universidade de Lisboa.
