Online teaching, contact teaching, or blended? Aalto is piloting a new way of categorizing courses in Sisu

Aalto has begun piloting new implementation types in Sisu. As part of the pilot, courses available via the Open University and the FITech network will be labeled in Sisu according to whether they are conducted online or on campus. The pilot is part of the beta launch of the Opin.fi service. The aim is to expand the classification to the entire course offering during the curriculum period starting in 2026.

The new implementation types are online teaching, contact teaching, blended teaching, and online exam. The pilot will include the courses published in the beta release of the Opin.fi service for continuous learning, i.e., with courses available through the Open University and the FITech network. The most visible change affects the name of the course unit implementation. Therefore, you may notice now and in the future that some course names indicate whether it is online, contact, or blended teaching. Online teaching refers to studies that can be completed online, contact teaching refers to studies that require presence on campus, and blended teaching refers to studies that use both online and contact teaching.

The aim is to expand the classification to the entire course offering during the curriculum period starting in 2026. The goal is to improve the discoverability of studies for all students.

The Opin.fi beta has opened for learners on 8 October 2024. Find out more on aalto.fi
