ULISSES - University of Lisbon Interdisciplinary Studies on Sustainable Environment and Seas aims to raise awareness among students and society, favouring a deeper understanding of issues related to the oceans.

The initiative is aimed at university students who are looking to take part in an interdisciplinary and international project, who want to deepen their knowledge of the ocean and its importance for the sustainability of the planet, and who are looking to explore different career prospects. It will take place over several weeks, with an online component between January and April 2026, and a face-to-face component in Lisbon from 6 to 24 July 2026.

What's in it for you?

• You participate in an interdisciplinary and international project, with the support of researchers and experts.
• You collaborate with students from other schools and countries.
• You will deepen your knowledge of the ocean and its role in the future of the planet.
• You will explore new career and education perspectives.
• It includes a short-term Erasmus+ mobility program.
• It is free and worth 6 ECTS credits.
• Three universities are involved: the University of Lisbon, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and the Technische Universität Darmstadt.

The selected students will take part in an international team and supported by researchers and experts will be challenged to design the most innovative solution to the problems facing the oceans in a collaborative environment.

Ulisses is a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) funded under Erasmus+ KA131. It consists of an intensive learning programme, offered by three partner institutions, combining virtual learning activities with physical mobility activities. ULisboa will be the receiving institution, where the learning activities during the physical mobility will occur.

The programme is free and is worth 6 ECTS credits. Students can apply for an Erasmus grant from their Aalto School to participate in this Blended Intensive course (note: funding is limited). The course consists of a virtual and physical learning period and the credits must be included in the Aalto degree. The grant must be applied for no later than one month before the course starts.
