Call for mentors: Compassion mentoring in peer groups for doctoral students in autumn 2024

Compassion mentoring was piloted in Aalto last autumn and it received very positive feedback. The groups have fostered a supportive atmosphere and productive discussions on compassion-related topics. The groups are led by peer mentors. Mentoring allows you to develop valuable skills such as facilitation and compassion skills which are needed in working life, for example when you supervise or teach students. You will also learn to guide group exercises.

We are offering a Teams meeting for mentor applicants on 21^st of August at 12-13, where we will tell you about the compassion mentoring process and you can ask questions. 

As a mentor for the compassion mentoring group, you don't need to be an expert on the subject matter. Your task will be to facilitate the group’s work on compassion-related topics together with your co-mentor. The peer groups will meet six times during the autumn term. The groups and training sessions for mentors will be held in English. In addition to the training, we will provide continuous support throughout the group session period, and there will be opportunities for shared learning and experiences among the mentors. 

The training sessions for mentors in the autumn are held on 4^th, 11^th, and 18^th of September at 12-14 on campus. It is very important that you will be able to participate in all three training sessions. You can already book them in your calendar! 

The compassion mentoring model was originally developed in Nyyti ry's Compassion for Higher Education project. At Aalto, compassion mentoring is part of the services of the Aalto personnel's Wellbeing Desk.
