BioSusTex Advances Sustainable Textile Research and Industry Collaboration
The two-day programme provided an opportunity for consortium partners to review progress across the project’s work packages, exchange scientific knowledge and strengthen collaboration. The agenda included contributions from Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE), Aalto University, BeeGranted, GreenDecision, Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Chalmers University of Technology, Stockholm University, Vividye, Texia, and Sun Tekstil.
The first day opened with an introduction by Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE), followed by an overview of the project roadmap. The programme then moved through updates from the various work packages, covering the consortium’s ongoing activities and areas of collaboration.
A key scientific session in the afternoon featured a presentation by Tim Åström, Stockholm University on analytical advancements in target and non-target chemical surveillance, with particular emphasis on safer and more sustainable approaches to textile analysis.
The first day concluded with a General Assembly involving relevant project partners, providing an opportunity to discuss the wider progress of the consortium and coordinate activities across the project.
The programme continued on 30 September with a study visit to Texia, giving participants an opportunity to see textile technologies and production activities in an industrial setting.
During the visit, Texia presented its infrastructure, technologies and market activities to the consortium. Participants toured the production lines and gained first-hand insight into the company’s technological processes and industrial operations. The visit offered a practical perspective on how research and technological development can connect with real-world textile production.
Among the participants from Aalto University were Prof. Ali Tehrani, Michael Hummel and Md. Reazuddin Repon, who took part in the consortium discussions and the Texia study visit.
By combining technical discussions, work-package reviews, scientific exchange and an industry study visit, the two-day BioSusTex meeting provided a platform for partners to assess progress and deepen cooperation.
The meeting also underscored the value of bringing research and industry closer together. Through continued collaboration across the consortium, BioSusTex partners are working to explore practical approaches that can contribute to safer, more sustainable textile production.
