A!BP attends the 14th Nordic Symposium on Building Physics

Members of the research group attended to present current research findings and contribute to the conference with a workshop on the topic of heat & moisture transfer in buildings.

On 08.06-10.06, the A!BP research group attended NSB 2026 in Tampere, contributing to the conference with scientific presentations and collaborative workshops on bio-based materials.

Magda Posani presented the Bio-LCArch educational project (developed with Prof. Junjie Li, Beijing Jiaotong University), showcasing innovative approaches to integrating natural materials into building physics education.

Tayma Dadssi, who is pursuing a cotutelle PhD between Aalto University and Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech, under Prof. Kalamees), presented her research on the temperature-dependent thermal conductivity of new ultralight earth bio-based insulation materials developed by Arch. Hyrkas.

Jingyi Deng presented research on the influence of air velocity on the moisture buffering performance of light earth materials.

Alongside scientific presentations, the research group also participated in leading the CIB W040 – Heat and Moisture Transfer in Buildings.The workshop was led by Asst. Prof. Magda Posani and co-organized with CIB W040 Coordinators Dr. Lin Wang and Dr. Nickolaj Feldt Jensen.

The meeting brought together international researchers to discuss recent advances in hygrothermal building physics and define future research priorities. A highlight of the meeting was the launch of an international Round Robin on the characterization of bio-based insulation materials and solid wood. This collaborative initiative marks an important step toward improving the quality and comparability of hygrothermal material data and will support future research on durability and moisture-safe design.

The conference also provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen international collaborations and exchange the latest research on building physics research for sustainable and climate-resilient buildings. The A!BP team sincerely thanks the invited speakers, Prof. Juha Vinha (Tampere University), Dr. Valentina Marincioni (University College London), and Dr. Kristo Kalbe (Tallinn University of Technology), for their excellent presentations. We also thank all participants for the engaging discussions, and additional special thanks to Prof. Vinha and Dr. Laukkarinen for coordinating NSB and CIB W040 meeting logistics.
