Panu Miettinen Explores the Journey from Research to Business

The session focused on the journey from academic research to business opportunities, with particular attention to the Research-to-Business (R2B) funding instrument and the BioProTex project.

During the meeting, Panu Miettinen, Business Developer for the BioProTex Research-to-Business (R2B) project, introduced the R2B funding instrument. The programme supports researchers in exploring the commercial potential of their research ideas and developing them towards viable business opportunities.

Miettinen discussed the journey from research to business and highlighted the importance of identifying the commercial potential of research at an early stage. He explained how researchers can develop their ideas beyond the laboratory and communicate their value and potential to funding organizations and potential business partners.

As a practical example, Miettinen presented BioProTex, an R2B-funded project, and shared insights into how the project was developed and pitched to Business Finland to secure funding. The presentation provided the group with a practical perspective on transforming a research idea into a business-oriented project and demonstrated how the project's potential can be communicated effectively during the funding process.

Members of the Textile Chemistry Group participated in the session and had the opportunity to learn from the BioProTex experience. The discussion provided valuable insights into research commercialization and highlighted the possibilities for translating academic research into innovations with real-world and commercial potential.

The meeting emphasized the important role of collaboration between research and business in bringing innovative ideas from the university environment towards practical applications and future commercialization.
