Aalto's AlumniStudent Weekend is a well-loved tradition

“The AlumniStudent Weekend seminar is a really special occasion, particularly in the way it helps you meet up with friends from your time at university and other alumni, as well as being a great networking opportunity for students.”
So says Aalto University alumna and Director of Digital Service Solutions at Valmet Oy, Tuula Ruokonen. In addition to attending the event almost annually, she has also been involved in organising it.
The traditional seminar for alumni and current students was recently hosted by the School of Electrical Engineering on Friday 27 October 2018. This year, the themes of the seminar were ‘developing heath technology’, ‘Finland in space’, ‘electromobility’, and ‘future leaders’. The 2018 Electrical Engineering Alumni of the Year prize was awarded to Matti Alahuhta, who has worked in international management roles at Nokia and as the Managing Director of KONE. In receiving the award, Mr Alahuhta was commended for his positivity, net assets expertise, and the active role he has played in developing Aalto University.

The AlumniStudent Weekend is held in high regard by all Aalto alumni. This year’s event was attended by 251 guests, of which220 were alumni. Managing Director of Planmeca, Tuomas Lokki, praised the seminar for providing a pleasant way of keeping up-to-date with events at Aalto University and the new talent emerging from the School of Electrical Engineering.
The seminar was organised by the alumni organisations for electrical and communications engineering, bioinformation technology, and automation and systems technology, the School of Electrical Engineering guilds for students of electrical engineering, bioinformation technology, and automation and systems technology, Energiajohtajat ry, and Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering.
