Aalto University Excellence Scholarship Ceremony welcomed new Aalto University students with scholarships on Tuesday, October 21st

On Tuesday, October 21st, Aalto University welcomed its new batch of international students with Aalto University Excellence Scholarships at a ceremony held at the Aalto Design Factory Stage.

The ceremony celebrated not only the students' hard work and dedication that earned them the scholarships but also the promise and potential for positive change that lies ahead in their journey at and beyond Aalto University.

The event started with warm welcome words from Petri Suomala, Vice President for Education, who emphasized the value of the close-knit Aalto community and collaborative attitudes. His words were followed by testimonials from Rana Roidah Fitriani, a current scholarship student at Aalto University, and Nithin Sadanandan, an alumnus who also received scholarships during his studies and is currently working in Finland. Susanna Ritala from the Alumni team presented information about the Aalto community and activities in collaboration with other alumni.

Following the speeches, students participated in a lively networking session that offered them the opportunity to meet fellow scholarship recipients from various fields.

Aalto University Excellence Scholarship

Aalto University Excellence Scholarships are merit-based and granted on a competitive basis to the highest-achieving tuition fee liable applicants, based on the program's evaluation criteria. These scholarships are awarded as tuition fee waivers and cover the full tuition fee for the normative period of studies.

The scholarship is available to both bachelor’s and master’s students and this year alone, the scholarship program represents over 20 nationalities from four different continents, spanning diverse fields and disciplines, truly reflecting the diversity and internationality at Aalto University.

These scholarships support students in various ways, including supporting academic motivation, improving physical and psychological wellbeing, and creating a sense of belonging. They also play a critical role in attracting, integrating, and retaining top international students in Finnish society.

Donate towards international scholarships

You too have the opportunity to support talented international students by making a donation. Individuals and organisations can contribute any amount between €5 and €9,999 through our website. The donated funds are awarded as Aalto University Excellence Scholarships. Smaller donations are pooled, and once the total reaches the equivalent of one tuition fee waiver, a scholarship is awarded based on academic merit during the admissions process.

Those wishing to make larger donations that cover the tuition fee of an international student’s degree can contact the Donor Engagement Team at Aalto University to discuss details. Donors will have the opportunity to choose a target and name the scholarship funded with their donation.
