Lifewide Learning

Aalto University’s continuous learning education for the creative industries strengthens the ability of architects, landscape architects and other design professionals to lead work, projects and practices in a rapidly changing operating environment. Today, in addition to traditional design expertise, new kinds of skills are needed, including a stronger ability to understand the economy and different technologies, manage projects, and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.

The education complements design expertise with an understanding of business, finance, contracts and risk management – skills that are increasingly needed in the everyday work of creative professionals. It helps participants leverage the opportunities of sustainable construction and new technologies, communicate the value of their work convincingly, and act as stronger partners for clients, users and other project stakeholders. The end result is competence that supports both better design and more profitable and impactful business.

The education is delivered with funding of 260 000 euros granted by the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment (SECLE).

Who are the studies for?

  • For architects, landscape architects, and interior architects. The funder requires that students have an appropriate educational background in the field of architecture. This will be verified at the time of registration.
  • For actively working professionals who own or run their own practice, lead projects, or work in other creative industry roles, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises.
  • You must be an adult learner – if you are enrolled as a degree student at a higher education institution, you unfortunately cannot participate.
  • You must have a Finnish ID number in order to apply.
