Kurssilla käsitellään neuvottelutaitoa vuorovaikutuksen näkökulmasta. Keskeisiä teemoja ovat neuvotteluun valmistautuminen, tavoitteiden asettaminen, yhteistyöhakuisuus, neuvottelijan vuorovaikutustaidot ja ongelmanratkaisu. Kurssi on käytännönläheinen ja harjoituspainotteinen. Kurssilla käsitellään johtamista viestinnän näkökulmasta. Viestinnän näkökulma johtamiseen korostaa viestinnän ja vuorovaikutuksen keskeistä roolia johtamisessa ja esihenkilötyössä. Keskeisiä teemoja ovat johtajan vuorovaikutusosaaminen, johtaja-alaissuhde, palautetaidot, kuunteleminen, vaikeat keskustelut ja ryhmäviestintä tiimeissä ja kokouksissa. Kurssilla käsitellään myös etäjohtamista ja teknologiavälitteistä johtamisviestintää. Kurssi on käytännönläheinen ja osallistava. Kurssi sisältää keskustelevaa luennointia, pienryhmätyöskentelyä, harjoituksia, viestintätilanteiden simulaatioita sekä kirjallisia oppimistehtäviä. Kurssilla käsitellään useita työelämätaitoja.

Tämä itseopiskeltava verkkokurssi tarkastelee systeemistä ajattelua tärkeänä mekanismina, jonka avulla tutkitaan tapahtumien ja skenaarioiden keskinäisiä kytköksiä spekulatiivisessa suunnittelussa. Siinä missä perinteinen muotoilu pyrkii ratkaisemaan olemassa olevia ongelmia, spekulatiivisen työn tavoitteena on herättää kysymyksiä ja virittää syvällisempää pohdintaa nykyisten toimintatapojen sekä kehittyvien teknologioiden tulevaisuuden vaikutuksista. Content

This is an introductory online course for students who are curious about what design is, how designers work, and how to work with designers. In this course we explain the basic definitions of design, introduce models for understanding design processes, and show the value of design in industry and society. 

Students learn the four essential pillars of design today: sustainability, collaboration, innovation and management. Through hands-on activities and reflections at the end of each chapter, we give you a taste of some widely-used design tools, guide you in thinking like a designer and show you possibilities of deepening your design studies at Aalto University.

The course is self-directed and at your own pace: there are no class meeting times or live lectures. This is an elective course suitable for both BA and MA level students.

Content

The service design course was upgraded and updated to reflect the latest developments in service design, which are affected by dynamic and constantly changing geopolitical situations, technological advances in AI and other disruptive technologies, and the ever-changing environment. The sustainability theme was selected due to limited resources, climate change, and the urgency of reducing consumption. Therefore, the course is an excellent opportunity to experience contemporary AI-formed service design and circular business services firsthand. A red thread in this service design course is analysing and redesigning carefully selected sustainable and/or technology-driven services weekly in a group of diverse professionals across the EU.

The course starts by discussing what service design is in the current, ever-changing context and its possible future developments. The second session presents numerous service design tools that are process- or customer-focused, life-, planet- environment-focused, systemic, or strategic. The third session expands on systemic and strategic service design dimensions following the lecture that examines the changing landscape of value creation at the complex service ecosystem level. The lecture placed before the digital co-design workshop looks into sustainable customer experiences and their personalisation with adopting AI. The co-design workshop is the highlight of the course that enables the redesign of company cases by utilising sustainable strategies on service/product, business, and ecosystem levels. In the last reflective session, participants present the course learnings implemented in their company’s day-to-day work activities. The lectures are complementary to each other.

We will discuss data protection law in context of other rights and interests, using recent case law. We will not only go through the General Data Protection Regulation in detail but also see how this EU law works in context with other national or EU instruments.

The first module (MNGT-E2015 Data Analytics for Managers, module 1) introduces data analytics and its emergence, evolution and use in informing decision making. It focuses on analyzing and visualizing data to draw insights and make recommendations. It also touches upon the challenges associated with using data to inform decisions including those related to governance and ethics.

The second module (MNGT-E2016 Data Analytics for Managers, module 2) focuses on the use of models to inform decision making, including optimization, decision trees, and forecasting. It introduces the basics of each of these three modelling approaches and focuses on building, using and interpreting the results of basic models.

Kurssilla käydään läpi sopimushallinnan merkitys yrityksen liiketoiminnan kannalta. Kurssilla käydään läpi sopimusprosessi sekä selvitetään, millaisia sopimusehtoja sopimukseen tulisi kirjata. Lisäksi käydään läpi erilaiset sopimussuhteen suoritushäiriötilanteet, kuten virhe-, viivästys- ja maksukyvyttömyystilanteet sekä selostetaan, kuinka näissä tilanteissa tulee toimia. Kurssilla selostetaan myös kansainvälistä sopimussääntelyä.

Content

This course presents widely used wood-based products as well as those that have been recently developed. The production processes and structure of different engineered wood products, such as plywood, cross-laminated timber, and other timber and panel products, are described in detail. Links between wood product properties and typical applications in the living environment are presented. Further the course covers wood modification methods which affect the durability of wood.

After this course students:

• are familiar with the ambient conditions for wood products in different environments, such as indoor or outdoor applications, during service life
• are familiar with the most common wood adhesive systems, their properties and application in wood products
• are able to list the most common wood products, their setup and application range
• know the whole production processes of selected wood products, such as plywood, cross-laminated timber, particleboards, fiberboards and modified wood products starting from raw material to the end product
• know the impact of certain key process parameters and their effect on the performance of the products respectively

Aimed at students wishing to specialize in the materials science of wood, this course will also be of interest to students of architecture, civil & structural engineering, materials science & engineering and related disciplines, who have an interest in the possibilities offered by wood. The course covers wood formation, wood structure & anatomy, wood-water relationships, and the physical properties of wood, including wood density & porosity, fluid flow in wood, the thermal & hygrothermal properties of wood, as well as acoustic properties. The course also covers short- and long-term mechanical properties and introduces students to the main agents responsible for wood degradation. Through this course, students will also appreciate the multi-functional role that forests play in providing ecosystem services as well as wood products.

Kurssilla tehdään pienryhmissä harjoitustyönä skenaarioraportti, jonka teeman pienryhmä saa itse päättää. Pienryhmä opponoi toisten ryhmän skenaarioraporttia. Harjoitustyön hyväksytysti suoritettuaan opiskelija osaa soveltaa skenaarioajattelua ja tulevaisuustaulukkomenetelmää vaihtoehtoisten tulevaisuuksien kuvaamiseen ja pystyy arvioimaan kehitystrendejä.
