Besides the language and communication studies that are compulsory, a degree may include such studies as electives, including:

• Any foreign language, speech communication or intercultural communication courses offered by the Language Centre.
• Aalto University Open University language and communication studies
• JOO (flexible study right) studies
• Studies completed elsewhere and recognised through the AHOT (recognition of prior learning) procedure

As there is no required skill level for courses counted towards elective studies, they may also include beginner’s courses.
