Applying for a grant

General criteria

The HSE Support Foundation particularly supports research projects that aim to publish in high-quality, international, and peer-reviewed journals. When assessing the potential of a research plan or conference presentation, the applicant’s ability, as demonstrated in recent years, to publish their research projects in peer-reviewed journals is taken into account. This is not required for those pursuing a master's or a doctoral degree.

General information about applications

  • Apply for a grant by filling in the electronic application form in the HSE Support Foundation's application service.
  • Also provide the necessary attachments in the application service.
  • Include the email addresses of the referees (i.e. references) on the application form. The referees will then receive an invitation and a link to a separate reference service where they can submit their letters of reference.
  • The application period ends at 24:00 Finnish time on the last day of the application.

Information on grant awards

Applicants will be notified of grant awards with via a ‘yes or no’ response via email, and later on information on the grants awarded will be published on the HSE Support Foundation's website. Grant recipients will receive award letters containing instructions.

Letters of reference

Requesting a letter of reference

Letters of reference attached to applications are made electronically through. When you, as a grant applicant, provide the contact details for your referee on your application, the system will send them an invitation by email with a link to the online service where they can send their letter of reference.

Providing a letter of reference

The online reference service is provided by the Helsinki School of Economics Support Foundation for submitting letters of reference. As a referee, you will receive an invitation and a link to the service via email when the grant applicant has provided your details on their application. Create username and password in order to use the online service.

Complete the necessary letters of reference in the service. Especially for grant applications related to doctoral work, a letter of reference form filled in by the thesis supervisor or another person who knows the work well is important and often necessary.

When recommending multiple applicants, the importance of each applicant is also significant. Especially in the case of research groups, it is important that you, as a referee, know under what name or by whom the grant is being applied for. In that way, the letter of reference can be linked to the correct application.

The letter of reference form must be completed by the deadline. The online service will close ten (10) days after the application period ends, at 24:00 Finnish time.
